Summer transfer rumours deux, the 'Appy edition.

Sean Maguire is having a medical on Wednesday.
Has a lot of talent and Preston manager has said he’s the best striker he’s ever managed (better than Archer) in an interview recently.
But he has had a bust up with club captain Browne.
Clever piece of business, hasn’t had the chance there but came through the West Ham youth academy and will no doubt score the winner against them.

Two Nobbers turning up to spread this ‘rumour’. School holidays started?

I could only imagine this being Apples reaction.

“What the fuck are those young Sean, have you kept the receipt Ben!?’

The guy who went to Saudi for £3mn with a reported £1.5mn a year contract in January? I’m going to admit to some scepticism about this one …
The Saudi team have been relegated to the Saudi second tier, looking to off load high earners and won’t do his international chances any good playing in an almost semi pro league especially with World Cup round the corner.
Even though he plays for Australia Boyle is as Scottish as haggis neeps & tatties! Looking for a return to UK. Watch the developments!

He'd be a good signing but Hibbs have a buy back clause on him so they may want him back as they were toilet after he left.

Ive said nothing on this thread but honestly, I'm getting frustrated at the lack of ANY action in the transfer market.

A lot of free agents can't sign till 1st July.

Plus a lot of other countries' transfer windows don't open till that date also.

Should start to see more movement in the league soon.

Unless we're going to buy somebody absolutely bloody marvellous, I'm really ok if we get nobody in.
I think we have great players in every position, and some to spare.
What we have needed is a manager who can really use the potential of the players we have, such as Carey or Virtue, to play positive football. Rather than one who, having discovered he can't just replicate a Liverpool set up, then retreats into safe-play mode to just about scrape through games, as we did many times.
I know that squads can always, always, be improved, but having seen squads we've begun seasons with in the past, this lot's as good as any.
And I will welcome any new player who does come in because I genuinely think Appleton, with greater experience and insight than he had before, has a clear and ambitious understanding of his role at Blackpool.

Couple of bloody marvellous wouldnt go amiss though :)

That is a very good post.

I was thinking a while back that there was probably a decent case for not much change this pre-season. Seems like a long time since we were in that position?
That relies on not many leaving though, which so far seems to be the case. You can see now how Bowler might still be here
at least until the window closes.
MA may well want to use pre-season and perhaps the early league games as well to assess the situation and make the changes he feels are necessary later rather than sooner. He can probably afford to do that with what we already have, although it may cost more financially if done very late.
I won’t panic if there is no transfer action just yet, but we are going to need a select few adding at some point, and more if any leave or MA doesn’t like what he sees.

I spent a few minutes this afternoon looking at the current squad, here's where we are:

At the moment, if the club signs a RB, then the 25-man squad is full.

Realistically, I think Tharme and Virtue need to go out on loan to free up some space in the squad, Bowler is presumably going, so a replacement is needed, beyond that any more signings are going to need other players moved on, so I can't see much more than 4 - 5 signings in this window.

Yeah that’s about what I was reckoning. The squad limit is likely to be the defining factor.
We still might end up with a big churn under the new manager though. I am sure the O’s would have pretty much made a new manager put up with what he was given when he came in, but things might be different now.
I could imagine a situation where many more end up being sent out on loan than we imagine now.

With minimal changes to squad it could work in our favour, as the players have been rotated and regularly played together, we are a settled side already.

Nah let's not pretend that we don't need to sign anyone just because we don't seem to be very active at the moment. Crying out for a CM, will definitely need a Bowler replacement and also definitely need a new RB. That's 3 already and ideally I'd like more

We don't need to sign anyone right this minute, the season doesn't kick off for another month, and we could make do with what we have already. A new RB is obviously a must and something extra in central midfield would be desirable, but we don't have to rush out and buy one "just because".

I'll be disappointed if we haven't heard anything by close of business Friday, because that'll suggest we've missed out on the prime free-agents, but it's not the end of the world if we have.

We have Carey and Virtue, plus Ward if he proves his fitness. Carey is going to be a superstar. I think 3 really top class loans could nail it plus a couple of really shrewd signings.

I also think Bowler will stay.

That is why some of our signings will have to be underage loans or otherwise, who do not count towards the 25.
We haven't seen Tharme play yet and you are already sending him out onloan!

Loans count towards the 25 regardless of age.

Of the 5 we've got, he's the most obvious candidate to go out on loan, so far he's only played at National League level, I'd like him to get some experience in L1 before we bring him in to the Championship.

Excellent that

But aren't there 2 under 21's . Casey and Carey

That would bring the squad to 23

Na we definitely need some investment.

To make the sort of progression someone like Coventry has. Although I think our first season was better than theirs.

Our midfield is short, badly needs more quality, Stewart goes down far too much.

We need a class ball playing midfielder and a RB. Plus of JB goes we can then get a winger, another midfielder, maybe a prem striker on loan.

We don't want to stand still

Did he fail his medical?

Agree, it is slightly worrying and disappointing that we've yet to sign anyone. Not signing anyone, is not really standing still, it's going backwards. i know there's four weeks to go before the season starts but it's better if we have our new players heere ready to go and integrated into the system of how the manager wants us to play.

After tomorrow , Appleton will have had a fortnight to weigh up the players . Ok no games involved but he must have an idea of who he does and
doesn't fancy. Targets will have been identified before he was appointed but surely he must have a big say in what goes on in the transfer window so
possible transfers in and out will have been delayed a little. Much i think will depend on what happens with Bowler.
