Summer transfer rumours thread.

Worrying how?

99 percent of players who big clubs take on never get near the team. Most go at 15/16. Few more at 18/19. He’s good enough to survive a couple of big culls so how is it ‘worrying’l
Normally, if they think they're good enough to play league football, they'll hang onto them until they're 23, sending them out on loan means they don't have to pay their wages anyway.

It really doesn't cost them too much to do this, so the fact they're not doing this suggests either they think he's not good enough, or there are massive off-field issues.

This is cobblers. Sorry.

Any update on CamBran?? Are we still interested?
I’d be surprised if we landed Brannigan now think our chance was last January and it just didn’t happen.
Others clubs now linked with him including Sheff Utd, and Nobbers, as well as Portsmouth and that’s just who we know are in for him so I’am sure they will be a few more given the season he’s just had.

The link to Pompey has no substance and according to Alan Nixon the Sheff United and QPR interest was just Brannagans agent trying to spark an auction

Have you seen Liverpool’s midfield???? He has no chance really
which is why I've always said rather than big academies the value is in taking slightly older players released, not because they aren't good enough, but because they are surplus. For example a RB in the U21s might be released not because he's the worst player out of the squad, but they have 2/3 players who can play there and his squad space will be filled by someone they need, say a striker.

Obviously for this to be successful it needs really good relationships with the PL acads to the extent that we'd receive the heads up. If only we knew someone who knew the system inside out.

Good point except u/21s can bolster your squad without being included in the squad count. (Assuming this rule applies equally to the PL as it does to the EFL)

I was thinking more like having a set (optimum) number in your academy that you can reasonably work with and sticking with that.

I'm not going to Blackpool!

You get to play with Gary Madine...

Oh, well that changes things, where do I sig

Silly me I had totally forgotten about the goal machine's magnetis personality!

Oxford have just lost one midfielder, Sykes, to Bristol City, so that makes it so much harder for us to get Brannagan!

Messi: I don't think Blackpool is really my sort of club.
Gaz: c'mon man, you can have Jimmy's spot on the trip to Marbella. Daft bastard is having an op. We're one short.
Messi: When you put it like that. Simon. Where do I sign.?

I think Brannagan was tried and failed, with SSs layout on training ground and stadium improvements £1 million plus deals are off the table. We will be trawling the bargain basement again.

I think that's a bit extreme to say the least. There will be 1 or 2 'marquee' signings each summer I would expect, Yates in L1, Gabriel last summer. They were prepared to go to 1m in the January window and I'm sure all the training ground plans were in place then as well!

Brannagan will be NCs top target. So if Bowler is going, we need it to happen at the start of the window.

I think it's going to depend upon who else is out there, especially if they're out of contract, the fact that we were after CB last summer and in January doesn't mean that we're still after him.

I think there were more expensive signings than Yates that summer.

There's still the potential for a fee, possibly £1m+ if he's any good, even a club of Liverpool's size aren't going to just toss that away.

Also, Milner's 36, Henderson and Thiago are both 31, so a couple of years from now who knows where the club will be?
He is out of contract but the player (not the club) has an additional 12 month option. He has agreed not to take up his option with a mutual agreement that he can leave on a free transfer. He undoubtedly has a club lined up and we will be one of the likely suspects due to Critch.

Surely not 😬 how much have we supposedly paid up front? Can’t imagine we’d have been throwing that much at somebody with zero league experience.

The upfront fee was about £100k, the rest is all add-ons, if we get promoted to the PL, and he plays 250 games for us then it could be £1m.

Presumably a big sell on clause as well.

Even out of contract players command a fee if they're under 24, and if Liverpool wanted to keep him, I'm sure they could.

Did any either of those cost £1 million + no. Sadler said the other day there won’t be big money spent on players, however we will see.

I think the players we've paid a fee for since SS arrived have been Gabriel, Nuttall, Lubala, Yates, Hardie, Dale, Thorniley, Hamilton, Beesley, Carey.

So I think we've done better with the free transfers tbh. Ekpiteta, Grimshaw, Keogh, Dougall, Bowler, Garbutt, Stewart, Connolly, Lavery, Anderson, Madine, Husband.

Maybe the club has spotted the difference? The worst two signings were 2 of the 3 costliest. We've been better with free signings and fees of 250k and less. Up to now at least, it's a small sample size for fees above that.

Said with such authority. How did you become aware of these commercially sensitive details?

The £100k initial was one of the figures that was quoted when he signed, having just checked, other sources claimed £250k whilst one said nothing at all initial.

The rest I made up, but they're examples (albeit exaggerated) of the kind of terms that might be included in a transfer of this sort, i.e. instalment payments based on number of games, significant sell-on clauses, PL promotion probably isn't in there but who knows?

No it doesn’t, just meet the release clause in his contract, then it’s up to him !
Can't see us meeting his release clause now he only has one year left on his contract. We will want to negotiate lower, like in the last window, when we missed out.
