Summer Transfer Rumours trois - Will Appy (re)sign anyone?

Sure I've heard that we've already talked terms with Andy Lyons despite not agreeing a fee. Supposedly we are at the stage of negotiating how much we pay to loan Rogers from City.
May not need to be a 4th thread !

Well they say third time lucky Insider. Your first two posts resulted in nil signings and very few rumours. Surely we must have a couple of signings soon? It is quite obvious that many of our original targets have fallen by the wayside and gone elsewhere and the budget, which is better than last season's, is not quite as we were told?

Maybe we need to ask tangerinedub how good Lyons is.
He was stating we should look at Danny Mandriou who has now gone to Lincoln for months.

Lyons will be cover at right back if he signs but although highly rated he has never played outside Ireland so a risk.

Surely Uncle Richard is the guiding force here as it’s Southern Ireland.

found this about Lyons on Shamrock Rovers website:

BIOGRAPHY

Andy joins Shamrock Rovers from Bohemians ahead of the 2022 season.

A graduate of St Joseph’s Boys, Andy joined Bray Wanderers’ U17s in July 2016 but he spent just one month with the Seagulls and in August 2016 he joined Bohemian’s U17 side, progressing through the ranks to the first team by 2018, where he made 58 league appearances since, scoring once along with two goals in the FAI Cup. One of those was in a 2-1 win over Rovers in August 2021. A month later, the Naas man earned his first cap for Ireland Under 21’s in Bosnia. Andy also played all six games last season for Bohemians in their UEFA Europa Conference League run.

Not sure he’s one straight for the first team squad?

Might just be a scouting tip off if Lincoln have been looking at their players for a while and Appleton was involved in that process

Is or used to be a competitive market trying to unearth talent in the Irish leagues.

Interesting, Andy Lyons won't be the first Andy Lyons that we've had at pool.

Andy Lyons used to manage the "Blackpool Centre of Excellance" until 2008.

So I think it would be fitting if the new Andy Lyons would be called Andy Lyons Jr or Andy Lyons II.

Thought the name rang a bell !

Or Andy Lyans.

Lincoln have a bit of history of doing well from the Irish leagues. Have a few Irish youngsters and sent a few of their own out on loan to Ireland last season (both did pretty well by all accounts). I imagine Appleton and his coaches will therefore have a bit of knowledge of some of the better players.

Not necessarily, we may not be willing to pay their clubs asking prices, that doesn't mean we don't have a larger budget than last year.

I've read stories of Newcastle also being rebuffed in their efforts to sign players this summer..... yet there's no doubting the budget they have should the right player become available.

If Rogers comes in does that mean a Bowler replacement or addition?
Rogers in means Bowler out means we sign players. That’s my gut feeling anyway, and I could’ve sworn the board have said we aren’t a selling club.
Well if we have to sell to get players in then that’s a load of tosh.
Imho

Edit to add: yeh this looks really pessimistic of me in this post. I’m just frustrated.

It's a bit of a balancing act really. Just bear in mind that we're already quite close to the 25 squad limit, so there will need to be "outs" to accommodate the "ins".

I figured we were close to signing someone when we allowed Casey and James out on loan. That is 100% the right decision as they both need to play and freeing up a couple of places is key for when we do actually bring some players in.

What do you mean they’ve said we aren’t a selling club? I’d love to see proof of this.

Our whole model is on buying young talent and selling for a healthy profit and reinvest.

Unless your Man City, Real Madrid or Barcelona all clubs are selling clubs.

We're definitely a selling club, we've just not been very good at it so far to the tune of zero big sales. They can't get anything going and if incomings are reliant on outgoings there's no wonder its stagnated this summer.

Stuck in a circle of having a squad under contract but all performing at a similar level so nobody is standing out yet due to Critchley's approach, the never ending injuries and not being in league one now.

There's only Bowler because of his natural ability. And so of course he's the one on the shortest deal and every day he's still here he's now costing the club money because he can walk away at the end of his option and the other clubs know this.

On the Man City example above they are a selling club but they can easily palm those off they've finished with like Sterling to balance the books because of the Guardiola factor in making him look better than he is.

Yeh we need a couple more out, then (in the world of awesome transfers for BFC😁), we swoop down and get two fantastic players in.

I admit, in the past some of those we’ve bought in very late hVe turned out to be fantastic for us.
I live in hope

The club have stated we will develop players sell them on and re invest into the playing squad to help us grow.

It was in one of the first interviews done with SS, it might’ve been someone else (Mansford) but sorry I can’t remember.
It was on the lines of :-

We are no longer a selling club who just take the transfer fees. We will always reinvest in the squad.

Sorry, I have no evidence. But I did read it.
