Summer Transfer Rumours trois - Will Appy (re)sign anyone?

I think we'll see 1 or 2 outgoings this week and a shock in there.

Bowler, Yates, Anderson and maybe Ekpiteta.
We can’t replace Bowler,he’s an exciting player who makes things happen and there’s not many of those around. Unfortunately, unless he signs a new contract, if the club is offered good money, they’d have to take it. Interested clubs know he’s only got one year left, so they’re in a strong position. The club will have to decide how much they think they will be prepared to let him go for.

I agree, there's not many like him around and we couldn't afford to buy a player of his quality either so the club should do everything it can to keep him. However, if he doesn't want to sign then we can't afford to miss out on a decent fee before his contract runs out.

According to Scrafton talks are still ongoing with Shamrock re Andy Lyons. It appears it’s all about a fee, rovers want £350k and we are still short of that.

It's not like we haven't known for about 3/4 weeks how much they want. This is very similar to the Brannigan deal tbh.

Considering the Irish league ends in November, could it be a loan back till Jan?

All transfers are like this, the selling club wants as much as possible and the buying club wants to pay as little as possible, sometimes the parties will make a deal, sometimes they're just too far apart, only an idiot would pay the "asking price".

So he'd be our first full time signing and we'd send him back to his parent club, whilst we struggle to find players for the fullback positions ????

The club probably sees him as a convenient backup option who can play on either side.

Gabriel is due to be back in 4-5 weeks and we'll likely be in for another fullback.

How much is this guy actually worth? How good is he? What if we shell out and then we find out he cant handle the Championship? Every signing carries risk but he plays in Ireland, i doubt we have watched him close up? And he was transferred for 50k not long ago, between rival clubs who will know each others players well. Feels like we are not really in control of the process, and the random move for Bishop seems to support that idea. Are Shamrock Rovers looking to take advantage of our desperation?

Just to point out he was transferred in January for
1.A lot less than 50k
2. He was out of contract and the rules for transfers between clubs in Ireland for free agents u23 is that the buying club pays 1 years wages to the old club.

So it's not really a reflection of his value. The rumours were if he had taken up a contract in England Bohs would have got about 200k in compensation.

Interesting. Cheers. We seem to have offered €250k. According to the Irish Independent.

It seems pretty outrageous that you would know it’s not going to happen within the next 7 days, I call bullshit
It's easy to suggest it's bollocks. I hope he stays. He has a good 3 years left on his contract and by all accounts doesn't want to leave. That is why I don't think it will be concluded by Friday.

What? That literally isn’t true at all in majority of transfers 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Er, wot?

Are you suggesting that the buying club wants to pay as much as possible and the selling club doesn't want their money?

"hi Mike, it's Pep here, we'd like to buy Luke Garbutt for £50m,. sorry Pep, he's s***, you'll have to take him off our hands on a free, okay Mike, we'll go to £100m, but that's our final offer, sorry Pep, we'll have to insist on you taking him on a free and we'll pay the wages for the first two years of his contract as well"

That seems to be what you're saying.

No, that literally isn’t what I am saying.

But you don’t go to someone who wants 500k for a player and expect to get them for 100k like you seem to think is reasonable.

Funnily enough you have to pay decent money for decent players. The club should stop bidding for everyone and make serious offers. Pretty clear we will have pissed people off over the last 12 months with how we have gone about our business. We were 200k shy with Brannigan and fucked around.

I reckon we offered more than Brannagan is worth and i think we won't pay 500k for Lyons.

This isn't a dig at you but a lot of our fan base haven't got up to speed with how to operate at Championship level and penny pinching over 100k and 200k isn't the way forward if you want the players you're after. If you're not willing to pay Oxfords valuation then move onto the next target, we didn't do that. And aren't with Lyons.

Yes i think we fannied around over Brannagan and should have quit earlier. Second offer for Lyons seems reasonable though and it makes sense to make sensible offers and not simply pay whatever clubs ask for. The road to ruin surely.

Edit. Brighton want 50m for Cucurella. City have offered 30m. Are they arsing about and embarrassing themselves?

Absolutely agree Kurt.

Why would you leave him till Jan when their season ends 4th Nov.
Either loan till they win the league prob early Oct, or send Jack Moore to get experience of men's football

It was, but let's leave that to one side.

I'd say that depends upon how reasonable the £500,000 valuation is. The selling club is always going to "value" their player at the highest possible amount, and the buying club is always going to offer the lowest amount, after that they negotiate.

I think it's worth repeating, nobody else came close to matching what Oxford were asking for Brannagan, nobody else appears to be in for Lyons, if he really is "worth" £500,000, why is nobody else trying to buy him?

Spoken as if £200,000 wasn't quite a large amount of money for the club.

To put it into context, on a 3+1 contract that £50,000 p/a or £1,000 p/w, how well to you think Mr Lyons would react to having his salary cut by £1,000 p/w to fund the transfer fee?

I agree, we did offer more than Brannagan is worth however I think what Kurt means is Oxford had a price if we don’t want to pay that price fine walk away. I don’t think a Rolls Royce is worth £1/4 million pounds but that doesn’t mean they would sell me one for £50,000, even if I went up in small increments. The price is what it is, you either pay it or walk away, unless the other party is in dire financial straits then you may have a chance.

I agree to a certain extent, but I’d imagine with someone like Brannagan, similar to Bowler, with a year left on his contract his price is flexible depending on how much interest they get.

Surprised nobody has gone in for either of them, it almost feels inevitable both clubs will leave it late in the window to see what the best offers are
