Sun Story on Speeds incident

Just a thought but if the perpetrator is a young kid caught up in the melee, don't you think they'll be feeling awful right now? It might be a total tosser but it might not.

You might be right. I just hope it's a wake up call and people stop bringing these devices to games. It's not big and it's not clever.

That might be some consolation .

The fact that the story has made it onto The Sun means that there is now a very good chance of it going viral and the total on JustGiving growing exponentially over the next few days. Let's hope so. A true hero....
The chance it could go viral may very well be good for Speedys just giving page.

Unfortunately if it goes viral it'll be publicity that the club won't want.

Have you ANYTHING positive to type?

Of course the club will be interested.
Not only is it a serious incident outside their ground, I would imagine, with Sadler being a Blackpool fan he'll want to know how Speedy is getting on.
The club is very interested...... I know because Brett text me for Paul’s number 👍🏼 We have a great owner who is one of our own

🙄 The Club doesn’t seem particularly interested
The key word being 'seem', which translates as you have no clue either way but thought it best to put out a comment suggesting the club don't care.

If speculation is the name of the game it seems more likely to me that, given the difficult circumstances, the club and owner would be discrete about their involvement if they are offering support to the poor lad and his family. Just as the tweet Wizzerboy has posted now backs up. Edited to add: And as is also now backed up by mosser's comment.

We have a very decent owner who cares about supporters. I don't know why some still don't get that.

🙄 But nothing on the website

They could have done several things, offered sympathy to Speedy, shown the link to the just giving page, shown the link to the police asking for info, reinforced the idea that idiots and their explosives are not welcome, committed to banning the person responsible and promised to ban anyone caught bringing them into the ground in future

As others have pointed out, they've already done things - just because it isn't on the website doesn't mean it isn't valid. Plus I'm sure they're part of the investigation and may wait until the facts are clear. Seems any excuse to knock the club from some people.

I hear what you are saying Recidivist, but I wouldn't expect the club to comment publicly until the full facts are known. I'm sure a number of those things you state will follow. And things like links to 3rd party just giving pages can have more complicated angles for organisations. Formal organisations have to be much more careful about endorsing things like that and will always be overly cautious. The link to the police I do agree with though, they could put that up. However none of that means there is a lack of care about this situation from the club.

The club are obviously doing things away from the public gaze to assist the victim, and I am sure they are helping the police already, and that matters more than pushing out statements to me.

Social media has many ills chief of which is expecting instant reaction and statements on situations that are still developing.
