Pathetic

Pathetic Team selection
Pathetic performance
Pathetic result
Pathetic waste of an opportunity to take advantage of a "free hit"
All we learned is that we are indeed crap, the first choice players are bang average and we will be VERY fortunate to get through the play-offs. Sorry, we didn’t learn all that, we already knew all that !!

And ......
Meanwhile, the team we loan Embleton to finish ahead of us in the league - GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

their last 9 matches show some of the resentment -
D L L L D d L W D - just 6 points (more like relegation form !

Sunderland fans are only ever one performance away from being world beaters. If they do see off Lincoln some of their fans will be back to being arrogant and presumptuous about winning the final.

Oxford are indeed a threat but I would think the same had it been Portsmouth or Charlton who we faced. All teams in the top 8 have decent players and on their day can beat anyone in L1. Oxford made it to the final last season so know the score and have proven form over a decent period. The Play Offs are a bit of a lottery, the team who keeps their head and can produce under pressure will go up.

According to our "local" radio news this morning Sunderland are now favourites to gain promotion to The Championship having finished fourth in League One, they will play Lincoln in their play off game.
No mention of the two legged semi final or the fact a certain team that finished above them in the league and that beat them twice home and away may await.
Still, as others have said, it all means nothing now, however it would be most amusing if Lincoln now put them out, or better still we beat them in the final 😎

Just reminded me how much I dread the playoffs when we are in it.
Deep down I am confident and we are the best team in the play offs as form and league finish points out.

BUT..... just one bad game and it’s over 😧

Hope Embleton scores to put us through to final, Lincoln knock out Sunderland and Embleton scores winning goal in final. Their forum would be a joy to behold

I wonder how that bloke who records his views from his bedroom's taking it? He might even be forced into changing hats.

Was surprised to read it but saw an article saying that Oxford were the form team of the moment with 6 wins out of seven games. But no reason why we should be scared of anyone in the play offs. UTMP

The problem I have is that when we are poor, we really are poor. Just got to avoid being poor in the next three games and it’s ours irrespective of our opposition.

I’m already looking forward to a Oxford v Lincoln Final!

We have as fair share of fans with an “entitlement” complex as Sunderland it seems.

It’s the quiet one’s you have to watch as my Dad used to say and Oxford and Lincoln seem to being viewed as just making up the numbers!

Historically - all competitions, Blackpool’s results against them read

Team, Pld, W, D, L
Lincoln, 56, 34, 10, 12
Oxford, 35, 16, 8, 11
Sunderland, 63, 19, 18, 26

Bit perverse Bottle! If I thought that's how it would pan out I certainly wouldn't be looking forward to it. Yes, it might not be our time but also, it might. Deep breath dear Sir.

My only slight concern is that we have scored a lot less goals than the others. I know that we have also conceded less goals, but the play offs are like cup matches and those that win them can usually open up defences and are usually scoring freely

How very true that is!

I like to keep my expectations low ‘66 that way I’m never surprised, bitterly disappointed, but never surprised.

It’s being so miserable wot keeps me ‘appy innit!

....and one bad result away from being the ''World's worst''. Generalising about bi-polar fans ofcourse. There's plenty up here who will be up for Blackpool going up if we lose to Lincoln. Oxford ain't too popular as our former owners are U's fans at heart, whilst still hanging around Sunderland with 20% shares, like a bad smell. Yesterday, was one of the worst performances of the season. Though that could be just have been copied and pasted many times this season :)

The general feeling is one of negativity right now, but who knows. Clean slate next season with 13 players out of contract. Can't see many of them remaining with us , no matter what division we are in. That doubt can't be good going into a play off situation. In all honesty, Blackpool deserve it and you could argue Oxford's recovery from a worst start than yourselves is equally impressive.

We think it's because you see yourselves as a big team too much. Great stadium - tick. Great history - tick. But your down with us scratting about trying to get back up. I think you're a good team that's lost your way lately. But you're in there, your dangerous so, get back on your forum and tell your fellow fans to stop crying into their soup.

Soups a luxury in the North East.

It's a lottery.....and we've got a 25% chance of winning.
Personally I think we will get Lincoln in the final...as we can beat Oxford.......and I honestly think we can win this

OH....and as I'm being Mystic Meg...... also think Sunderland will sack Lee Johnston if they don't get promoted.....

I've got cats mate... given up.. not watching games etc. I said surely if play us in final with our banter he will.. total not was his reply. So hope its pool v imps final

I suggest you go on the Oxford site.
They're already getting ready for a final where they beat Sunderland 🙄

But now it's s clean slate and they have players like Wyke and mcgready who can hurt you.
Literally haven't seen anything from Wyke to suggest he's actually a good footballer. Sunderland look the most overrated side I've seen in League One. They finished way above where they should have. About 13-15th is about right. Absolutely average side.

To score 30 goals in a season would suggest he knows where the goal is.

I always think Sunderland are more guilty than most of blowing cash on players reputations rather than ability.
They could easily hoover up the best players in Div 1 and build a squad to take them up. However they wouldn’t be “name” players so would be sniffed at by the fans.

This season we signed a lot of the best players from Div 2 and that’s been enough to get us into the playoffs. With Sunderlands finances you could have done the same and more (best of Div 1 not just 2)

That said we have our share of nobheads who sniffed at our players for being Div 2 too.

Absolute cobblers. They got 77 points and over 46 games the better teams finish up where they should. I think you are confusing them with Fleetwood.

I hope we absolutely destroy Oxford (of course) and Sunderland just manage to rag their way to the final for one last mullering from the seaside. Would love to get them in the final.

Our recruitment has been shocking in L1. Then again , it was the Championship and quite often in the Prem. 😏 Location is still a problem. Hard to get people to move out on a limb by offering 1 or 2 years contracts max. Last owners sold off 13 academy players, which is just not the way to go. We had Garbutt and Mitchell training with us last Summer and did not offer contracts due to no knowing when the season was starting, due to covid ofcourse. Your owner and manager were pro active. Yates was also linked and yet again we made no move. It happened with Scott Fraser who went to MK Dons too. Then came the salary cap and the idiots running our club had us snookered.

I kind of appreciate the geography bit but I doubt there’s any Div1 or 2 player that wouldn’t join Sunderland over their club (our players included).
if you offered same deal to Garbutt as us he’d of signed for you. The stadium, the size of the fan base etc. Instead you seem to want to sign has beens on big salary and bonus. I thought Whyke was a good signing and an example of what would work in this league.
It could all come good for you over 3 games of course

According the new owner that will not happen. He was quoted as saying Sunderland can't just keep sacking managers andneed a plan, which is good to hear. Some continuity at some point has to prevail. Whether Johnson is the right fit remains to be seen, but he needs a window to basically sort what will be his players. There's a lot of doubt about him though, and I get the feeling he's a coach who over complicate things with too many changes of line ups and formations. Just wonder if he should be an assistant / coach really.

Almost word for word what was being said on here six months ago.

Our last owners showed their hand as they were all over social media and on fan podcasts or twitter. A really stupid move at times. Stewart Donald announced we'd be paying 3k to defenders, 4 k to midfielers and 5k to strikers. A dumb amateur approach to reveal this. McGeady is the only real big earner and prob Grigg got a bit of a better deal with bonuses. Fleetwood paid more to the likes of Ched Evans.

With Garbutt and Mitchell, they simply said they couldn't offer deals without knowing what was happening re Covid. Clearly didn't fancy paying money to anyone when they'd be training with no start date to the season. Very poor preparation. Stewart Donald got his fingers burned when we lost Maja to Bordeaux and he splashed 3m plus on Grigg. He has basically been clawing back that amount by selling off academy players or good Sunderland lads like George Honeyman. He went to Hull for 400k and would walk into most L1 sides. Was the club captain and been their since 10 year old. Said his agent told him he was leaving in the Summer of 2019 after we lost the play off final. The lad never got a word of thanks from the club owners. Those owners made STID 2 all about them. Got involved in editing etc. It ended up like a self promotional video for self titled ''PR Guru'' , Charlie Methven.

Ellis Short basically sold the club to a pair of chancers who used parachute payments to pay for it, but claimed they'd put that back in via their company name MADROX, progressively. Last year a debt of 20m was written off, owed by Madrox to SAFC. They just thought they'd get us up at the first attempt and sell for bigger money. Donald was allowed to buy the club due to having a Uruguayan millionaire guarantee the 50m you need to buy a club. He got 20% for 1 pound. He is still involved and brokered the deal for the new guy who looks promising, though it would appear he has hardly put a penny in the club. Just enjoyed drinking with fans alongside Methven when things started off ok. Methven is a particularly loathesome character, though no doubt not in the Oystons league. He orchestrated the sacking of kit man and former player John Cooke, who was doing that job since the Reid era. Sorry to bore you with detail, but I suspect your fans have probably witnessed all kinds of low forms of behaviour from your previous owners.

Good information that Daze, but your right it’s nothing compared to what the odious Oyston family did to our club, players and fans. In fact there’s a book coming out at the back end of Sept called How not run a Football Club about BFC. Having said that, for Sunderland you may have to start rebuilding from the bottom again and go through a bit of pain that the fans may have to suffer. Not nice l know but you can’t put the roof on whilst still digging the footings!

Sounds horrendous. Every time I hear about the EFL's 'fit and proper' ownership test it makes me laugh. There is a trail of destruction right across the football league, left behind by rogue owners. The trouble is it just takes so long to get rid of them, as we know only too well. Generations in some cases. We had the Oyston's as owners for nearly a quarter of our existence. That's why they need to be stopped from buying clubs in the first place, and why legislation about ownership is so important.

It’s good to read the detail and once again another club suffering shambolic ownership that the EFL will have approved without challenge.

I'll look out for that book mate. You're deffo right with those last two sentences. The infrastructure had been ripped out. It was bascially a new club from 2018/19 after being 170m in debt. Fair play to Short , he wrote that debt off !!! Or we were finished. The daft bugger could have spent 30m in the Championship and mounted a challenge back to the Prem at first attempt, whilst saving himself 140m . He just wanted out as an absent owner. Moyes, who gave up before he started, rarely spoke to or heard from Short. Grayson met him once and Coleman didn't even meet or speak to him at all during his short tenure.

Your fans deserved more attention from the likes of Sky and obviosuly the EFL. Man Utd's got that in spades ofcourse. It was impressive to see you played a big part in driving them out. People with power just think they can't ever be beaten. Just always get what they want. It sounded like they paid a big price in the end.

Our new owner has moved to the area from the South of France, which is a good sign. Wonder when he will realise and think what have I done ? 😅

They certainly did Daze but not wanting to go and watch your team week in week out for over 4 years to avoid lining the Oystons pockets was painful beyond belief.

Just reminded me how much I dread the playoffs when we are in it.
Deep down I am confident and we are the best team in the play offs as form and league finish points out.

BUT..... just one bad game and it’s over 😧
That only applies in the final Chunky. Remember the semi is over two games so you can potentially recover from one bad game, although I guess it can't be too bad...

Agree with @TangerineBayern that not attending for several years was painful, but it had to be done. Hopefully your new owner knows what he's doing. Thankfully our new owner couldn't be more different from the Oystons - a true fan who seems to understand how to run a football club and how to treat the fans/customers, if the first couple of years are anything to go by. We're extremely lucky.

Not easy for Sunderland, shouldn’t be in L1 and many of the other reasons above but the Club is where it is and their fans are on the edge

the Lincoln tie reminds me of Florist v Yeovil - that away match was also Yeovil’s Wembley (atThe City Ground)

He other problem is some of the players, if they don’t try they are still could enough for a transfer, wage rise and new house in a Championship - I think Wyke, McGreedy and Leadbetter are easy good enough for a step up.

So, for some individualsthe play-offs really don’t matter other than for the club and fans - many of the latter are alienated from the players and The Club
