Sunderland v Blackpool Official Matchnight Thread 27.04.21

Could be like watching the last rites being delivered to our season tomorrow, especially if we perform like we have in the last two games, or we could rise to the occasion and give ourselves that impetus to cement a play off place and come good again. I can't predict how it will go. That's why we love football. To me if we win it will be huge psychologically - but if we lose its going to be tough to amass 7 more points from a possible nine points remaining (which I think we'll need). Northampton away is no gimme and no one should assume we will steamroller Bristol Rovers. Barton will not want his players to rollover for us. And then there's Donny..and you know what they can do to us if we drop our standards. So 3 points tomorrow please and we can all become excited again.

Will depend on the team put out. I know I've said this before, but they are tired from all the recent fixtures. NC needs to squad rotate, otherwise little will have changed from Saturday. If that turns out to be a sacrifice for this game, so be it - at least the squad will be fresh for Saturday. Stewart apparently is back in contention too, so let's give him a start alongside Gabriel, Ekpiteta, Husband, Robson. and Mitchell Over half a "new" team there to build around.

Another angst ridden Tuesday evening in the life of a seasider Let’s hope the pressing Blackpool team turn up with a three points aim UTMP

Well said..👌

Last time they won was 2nd April, since then they’ve lost 3 and drawn 3. In the same period we’ve won 3, drawn 2, lost 2.

It could go either way, including a draw. Both teams will be nervous and the first goal could be crucial.
First goal has been crucial for us all season....look at the stats....if we dont score first...its not good.

Must admit I'm not looking forward to this tonight, but the optimist in me says a 1-0 win again to us.

Edit to add, 4 teams in the hunt for 5th and 6th, Oxford and Charlton the more in form two. A draw tonight wouldn't be the end of the world.

Amazing how things can change in a short time. A few weeks ago both teams were still in the hunt for automatic promotion. Now it is all about clinging on to a play off place. We appear to have run out of steam and ideas in the final 3rd. I'm glad Embleton can't play as he's been woeful in the last 2 games. Whoever scores first probably wins.

If Stewart is available, I would start him tonight along with Husband and Marv at CB. Ballard is due a rest.
Experience is needed in big games and especially at this stage of the season. Therefore my choice of team tonight would be a 4,2,3,1:

Maxwell
Turton Marv Husband Garbut
Ward Dougal
Mitchel Stewart Kaikai
Yates

But, giving Kaikai and Mitchel the freedom to come inside

"The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results".

Let's hope Critch is not actually insane 🙄

Maxwell
Gabriel Ballard Ekipeteta Husband
Mitchell Ward Dougall Garbutt
Simms Yates

As much as Turton is solid enough pro, he often backs off and allows too much time for a cross/shot. I'd prefer to get fresher, younger legs down the right.

I also think we need to pose a threat by keeping 2 up top, Accy scored 3 past their defence so hoping Mitchell's pace and Garbutt's delivery (it just can't be as bad as the last 2 games) can create something for Simms and Yates to feed off.

That gives us Robson, Kaikai and Holmes on the bench if we need to push for a result later on.

We been poor since 2nd half of Lincoln game, got 5 points in 5 games, very lucky 2 draw with Accy & beat Sunderland, we’ve ran out of steam, can’t see where our next goal never mind a win is coming from, iwthink a 3-0 defeat☹️

They’ve been worse

So difficult to predict tonight. In the past things have gone wrong at the end of the season, I remember Lincoln and Walsal( Owen came onto the pitch BEFORE the game) is he still at P Banus? Come on the Pool!!
