Sunderland

Just come off one of their message boards (not 606) even though we’re not there yet they are all pretty unanimous in the fact they all want us in the play offs.
Just some of the comments people have posted this evening.
“Blackpool are a bang average side at best”
“we should have stuffed them twice in the league”
“We’ll murder them in the play offs over 2 legs”
“Blackpool are very lucky to be in the play offs”
“They are the weakest side by far in the play offs”
Hilarious reading. 😂

We seem to have managed to get their manager in a lather over loaning a player to us when they thought they had no threats to their crown, so I would imagine the internal club view is different.

Tbf though if Sunderland are on it nobody should be able to keep up with them. They should already be promoted really. Big, physical and technically better. But even if the noise isn't inside the grounds at the moment the pressure of expectancy can do weird things. Colin Calderwood should know that from the 2007 play offs when Yeovil zapped his Forest team when they were cruising from the first leg.

This actually sums up their mentality, how many years in this division before they're humbled?

"they are 3 other shite league 1 teams" is such an arrogant view, as if League One football is beneath them and their status as Sunderland will help them beat these measly League One sides - the past few seasons has proved that not to be true.

You're right and the ridiculous expectations pile so much pressure on their team, implosion is no surprise. Mackems need to learn a little humility, they are a club whose fanbase should provide enough revenue to compete at at least Championship level, but you have to win games.

Should we play Sunderland their fans are helping Critch out with his motivational team talk.
Keep it up boys and don't tell them that it's no so long since we beat another massive club four time in a season before winning the play off final.

I am sure a lot of Sunderland fans think that they are a league 1 side with league 1 ability but for those that think they are better in an ESL sort of way I hope that we Oxford, Portsmouth, Charlton,Lincoln or whoever keep them in the third tier of English football.
Truth is it's not a bad place to be, when they are in the premier league or the championship, if they ever get there again, now that they have all voted for Brexit they will be even worse than usual!!

I would prefer them in the playoff final if we managed to get there. I reckon their big lumps would struggle on Wembley's big playing surface and it would favour our footballing style over their long ball tactics. Hopefully it will be scorching hot as well. Just like versus Cardiff 😀

There is a reason why we are all in this division and it is because we aren't good enough to have been promoted. All this big club nonesense doesn't matter they're in league 1. They should get over it.

As I said to a group of Cardiff fans before the final in 2010. Blackpool are the most successful team ever in play-off history. Their optimism drained and it was a merit worthy comment.

Maybe we can remind Scumderland of this stat? Tell them too how we beat Florists and The Massive Wendies 4 times in a season when they thought we were no-hopers! 🤡😁🤣

All them saying "Blackpool are shite" means is that they are worried about us, otherwise the fans with the big stadium syndrome wouldn't even have noticed us.

I'll be honest, id like to avoid them, they have some big time charlie players who will be motivated cause it's on the tv, probably thought the same about forest in '10 and brum in 12' etc though to be fair

I realty don't understand this thread

Yes we have beaten them twice but to be honest on the balance of play we were very lucky and to be honest i wouldn't want to play them again

And yes they are a bigger club than us and on paper do have better players

The only advantage they would have had on us is number of fans and Covid has taken that away.

Those so called Sunderland fans are deluded, as I'm sure that many neutrals regard Blackpool as a top side at this level. That said we certainly didn't see the best of Sunderland in the 2 matches we played against them, and I think there is much better to come from them in the play offs. Blackpool shouldn't fear anyone, but I wouldn't want to play Sunderland over 2 legs particularly.

Let ‘em all mouth off. Reminds me of the story of a frightened soul groping through a desolate building and making a lot of noise to frighten off the bogeyman.
Think I’ll pop the 2nd leg of “Forest” on again. Does wonders for well being.

I hope all the other 3 teams in the play offs think the same way. It is clear we play our best football against sides doing well, our results against those in the top 8 are remarkable, probably the best in the division.

We can only play the team put iin front of us ,yes sunderland are a bigger club and probably played better than us when we met but it is the sign of a good side that can win when not playing their best, just keep on doing what we are doing,no matter who we get if we reach the playoffs but remember we are not quite there yet.

Let's get our place in the playoffs confirmed.

Then let's get as many players back into contention as possible, although I wonder how many of our returnees will be match fit.

Beating Sunderland home and away will count for nothing if we don't go up. It's why I've done very little gloating with my SAFC supporting mates over here. Sunderland have been to Wembley and won this year already, so have the 'big day out' out of their system.

We've a great record in the playoffs, I want it to continue; but it will only continue if we focus on what's in front of us, one game at a time - and it's not just Sunderland we need to beat if we are to go up.

I'm not overly concerned who we get, but let's not get ahead ourselves.

Love it,
'Blackpool are a bang average side'.
What does that say about their own team

I actually felt that while we may have been a bit fortunate to get the two wins against Sunderland, I also got the impression that there wasn't much more to come from Sunderland, whereas I think there is from us.

Take mcgeady out of the side and I feel they offer little. They seem quite one dimensional with the big lad up front. Turton did an excellent job on him in the second game. But on balance I’m not sure I would want to play them again twice.

Personally I don’t think there is much between all the teams in the playoffs!
It may come down to team selection or formation selection, injuries or the rub of the green on the day too close to call for me. I certainly don’t fear anyone!

I don't want Sunderland. They were bruisers and should have got more than 0 pts against us.

Not that it matters as we'll finish 3rd and Blunderland will lose to Lincoln and we'll beat Pompey to set up THE SCRAFTON SYNDROME.

As I said the other day whatever happens we have come a long way since the oystons debicle ,let's get there and enjoy the moment (in the knowledge we don't need to worry about the nobbers getting in the premier League) PNE premier never ever 😁🤞.
