taking back control, making us great

Twitter is in a frenzy today. There are many reports that suggest that Gibraltar is seeking a unilateral deal to ensure it stays inside the ESM after January.

Meanwhile others claim that Gove is planning for a de facto internal border to restrict commercial traffic into and out of Kent. I'm not sure Medway Man (or Woman) had that in mind when they voted Leave.

We're learning the words of Le Marseillaise here, just in case.

Well if we can lose Scotland, NI and Wales from the Union I don’t suppose Kent will be too much of a loss.

What was this leaked letter (advice to the government) about 7000 lorries queuing for two days before they can get on a ferry at Dover?

Project fear I suppose.

I'd happily be part of Briton, a new country based on the geography of Scotland, Wales and England north of a line following the Avon-Trent rivers. Perhaps even the whole of England excluding the Home Counties and London.

Ironic how people smugglers have taken advantage of Brexit by drumming up business saying it's going to be harder to get in after Brexit if you don't do it now. 6000+ boat people so far this year. Only around 1000 a couple of years before.

I originally viewed brexit as a vehicle for Johnson and Gove to progress their ambitions. Although that was clearly the case, I now think much darker forces are at play, with the likes of Russia and China pulling the strings.

I shouldn't worry you head to much about vehicles having a long wait end route to Dover as only 14% are UK registered the remainder are European, mainly Polish, Romanian and French and they will not take to kindly to sitting in Kent for a couple of days.
The European hauliers and particularly the French will put pressure on their respective governments to get things moving.

I think you’ll find that, regardless of who is in the queue, the log jam is caused at our end. So it’s for us to sort out.

What I can’t get my head around is, regardless of deal or no deal, we’ve known for a while we will be outside the customs union. By definition that means more checks whatever does or doesn’t happen before 31 December. So why hasn’t this been sorted already? The funds to build the necessary infrastructure still have to be released to allow shovels to go in the ground. Why? The works need to be done. Now!!!!

But which is which? My brother-in-law is a Kentish man...so he tells me.
They aren’t sure themselves. But it’s always a good excuse for a ruck.

The best thing you can do then is shout “Well I’m from Essex and you’re all pansies”

Few things work better when you need to unite a county. And feel in need of a bruising.

You don't know how accurate you are. My wife's sister and her (from Kent) husband live in Essex.

I remember chatting to a lass in Sittingbourne many years back at a party, and the Kentish maid, Maid of Kent was discussed. Think it depends which side if the Medway river you were born??

I think it has to do whether you were Anglo Saxon or Jute. About 1500 years ago. Or nearer to London or not. Edit to add - so clearly immigration has always been a big thing in Kent.

But frankly I’m not that bothered. They are both stuffed once the lorries start queuing up.

Firstly it was German car makers that would force the hand of the EU, then French farmers, then soithern European wine makers, then various European destinations tourist industries, then Spanish fishing fleets, and now we have the European hauliers who will force the hand of the EU to come in line with British desires.

But we have control so we can ignore those Governments.

It looks like there will be barriers and borders in places where there weren’t any before, there are likely to be additional costs and tariffs that didn’t previously exist, more not less bureaucracy and red tape, reduced freedom for UK citizens.
Yet no doubt when it comes Boris, The Mail, The Sun, The Telegraph, The Express etc, etc will be calling it all a great release of liberty for us all.

Gibraltar are making a hop for it and setting up some form of border checks for UK goods, JP Morgan moving 2.5bn of the city to Frankfurt and Kent Access Permits. Kermit for short

I'd like to see a map detailing the carbon monoxide levels drifting across Kent next year.

Indeed, the liberty of being an island nation once again! ...err perhaps a two nation island before too long.
But what about the liberty of Magna Carta?! ...hmm, drawn up by a Frenchman who was forced into it by a cabal of Frenchmen.
OK then, definitely the cradle of democracy - the Glorious Revolution? You know, the King in Parliament...a Scottish King who was booted out.
Yeeees, but quickly replaced...by the daughter of a Scottish King and some bloke from Holland.
OK, so it took some time to settle....before we put Germans on the throne, yes I know.
Only for a hundred and something years, after which Victoria was crowned Queen and Britannia truly ruled the waves!
with the House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha as Head of State and its relations in the House of Hesse and the Romanovs doing something similar in Denmark, Germany, Russia, Austria-Hungary...why, it's sounding more like the EU every minute.
Rubbish! We ended up in a monstrous War because of the jealousies, pacts and counter-pacts with that lot. Two World Wars in fact. Better that we could move on from all that death and destruction by formally allying with each other through trade agreements, designed to encourage togetherness and peace.
But that meant giving up our liberty and....Hmm, I'll get back to you.
