I remember when I was at school, in the 50's and 60's we used to look up to the teachers.

I can't say the same now.

They were good teachers at my school with lifetime experience. Non of the WOKE rainbow lessons. We got the cane but it was normal to keep us on the straight and narrow. No one complained back then.

when I was at school in the mid 80s it was the kids that went on strike

Some kids tried it at our school. They refused to leave the playing field. Got beaten up by the music and Science teachers. Actually thumped hard! They didn’t do it again. No rainbow lessons back then. We were all better citizens for it.

Back int 70's 80's any teacher with a sporting background would volunteer to be team coach of any sporting team. Training most nights if you were involved in more than one team and a match on Sat or another night. Non moaned back then of the extra hours, sometimes they were tough, some were bullies, maybe as JBPS says more to do these days with marking, planning and social issues eg. having to deal with an eleven year old boy who wants a pair of tits, pussy and trout lips all paid for by the NHS when back in the day a good kick in or strap would have solved the issue. Its a hard profession, only to get harder.
Jackanory was on at the time and others which have now been banned.
