Gabriel and garbutt offer more than the other fullbacks for me. Think Kemp deserves a chance but not sure where he gets in. Gretarsson would be unlucky to miss out.

I'd go with that.
 
I think unlikely Garbutt plays. Been out most of season, so likely better to give him a rest and start him next game.

Won't be two left-sided wide attacking players. Critchley seems to favour balance in attacking positions. Which if Grayson had we might not have seen Critchley to begin with.

Maybe but I was posting my team not his. Garbutt isn't a great defender and offers plenty going forward, more than Kaikai on a consistent basis, I'll predict.
 
Garbutt is just for set pieces for Critchley so left back is just somewhere to stand until they get one.

They do know what they're doing but they make mistakes! Especially under pressure. Buying a new squad in one window. Reacting to poor early results and bad goals given away. We out Turton at left CB and gave Garbutt and Gabriel debuts at full back against Ipswich. Bring the game forward and then do that. Thankfully we've moved on from there.

On current form i think there is no doubt that this is potentially our best lineup. Some people will have doubts about the fullbacks, but Gabriel and Garbutt in theory offer more going forward. The case for Turton and Husband is that they offer more defensive solidity. Not having a go at Turton and Husband but are they as good all round players as the other two?
If they were rock solid stoppers, 8 out of 10 players week in week out, maybe start them against Portsmouth but they aren't.

Edit to add i was referring to Hazis team selection for Portsmouth.
 
There is no way he will drop Ekpiteta, who has been our most consistent defender and has shown most improvement. I can see him choosing Ballard over the Viking, but that is a close call as the latter has also shown improvement and has been very good in his last 2 matches.
If fully fit, I think Garbutt edges out Husband for me, rspecially for his set pieces. I am not totally convinced about Gabriel although he was good against Harrogate. Turton is a better defender, Gabriel better attacking. I suspect he will choose Turton.
In midfield, the centre looks much stronger when Dougall and Ward play together. Ward works harder than Robson and can use both feet, unlike Robson. Ward is alo in form and played some great passes yesterday. CJ is a starter but the other midfielder is between Anderson, who looked good yesterday, and Kai Kai. I suspect he will start Kai Kai. Yates and Madine up front

Do they though? They were part of a team that conceded 3 second half goals last week? I don't buy Turton is a better defender than Gabriel.

I agree with you but i think a lot of people have Turton and Husband down as the better out and out defenders. Let's be honest without meaning to be rude if they aren't seen as good defenders then they are generally slightly below average league one footballers with little to offer.

Which over the past few weeks has been absolutely true. We can't have full backs who can't defend, pass or attack? It's just madness.
 
I think recent games have shown us the most important thing isn’t only the starting eleven. It’s what is done during the game to use the best 16 through 90+ minutes. One formation, one eleven isn’t the debate. It’s good to see that we haven’t only one standout eleven but really do have a squad with options emerging in most areas.

I feel a 3 at the back coming on. Wrong imo.

At RB? Turton against teams who may wish to attack. Gabby against those inclined not to.

Eki unlucky to miss out just like the balance of a left and right footed pairing. Happy with either Viking or Eki to partner Ballard tho.

Dougall needs a rest. Anderson in for him.
 
The one thing I would say is that Pompey are a free scoring team and look dangerous whenever they get the ball in the box. One of those games that arguably you would have wanted Williams fit but without him I think Robson rather than Ward.
 
How about we wait until we hear what team Critchley has picked and support that?

It's all well and good saying who you'd pick and who would be left out but when alls said and done it's a handful of blokes at the club that make the decision 🤷‍♂️
 
The only crosses that I’ve seen this season have come from Garbutt, and he has hardly played. No wonder Madine never gets a header on goal in the box.
