The 'be nice to each other' message

Just watched Laura Whitmore paying tribute to Caroline Flack on 5 Live this morning - very emotional. Just got me thinking about message forums - do we need to be nicer to each other? Some posters seem intent on just being obnoxious for the sake of it, attacking individuals for no real good and the ironic thing is we're talking about individuals who will probably never meet.

I have noticed this new forum seems far more discussion based and arguably less judgemental or antagonistic - be good for it to stay that way. The vast, vast majority of Blackpool fans I know are bloody good people who engage in great banter and is surely what this forum is for. I think the 'be nice to each other' message, whilst adopted by the majority on a daily basis, is one that is well worth talking about.

I watched it about an hour ago.....as you say thought provoking and quite emotional...I'm sure it must be just as easy to be nice to someone than bully and troll them.....it got too much for the poor girl.

It’s easy to get sucked into going a bit OTT on the internet and it’s also easy for comments and their intent to be misconstrued.

I’m no angel on the forums, but I think Twitter seems to take nastiness to a whole new level.

It’s almost as if these talentless vacuous reality celebs and media types want all the upside of excessive wealth and benefits accrued through fame rather than a more modest reward for their dubious gifts.

There’s no excuse for bullying and it would be a better society if they all had been ignored in the first place.

Sat in the car listening to Laura Whitmore and have to say it was powerful stuff. In many ways, rather than talk about reality TV stars, we should be talking about footballers who start out with a passion for the game (as we all do), have the talent to make a career of it (as we all would love) but the face the backlash from over critical fans.

It wouldn't be human nature (or actually very interesting) if we came on here after a game (especially a defeat) and applauded everyone, however I don't get why social media is so toxic towards them. Jealousy, a way out of their own boring lives or actually some people are just genuinely nasty. Certainly made me think about how I will behave on social media going forward. To think a negative comment I wrote could have that impact on someone is an awakening.

X3 I think you just have to ignore a lot of stuff on Twitter, it's not all bad.

Twitter can be quite addictive, but there are some utterly vile people on there, and it does seem to attract people with extreme views.

Some of the drama on here amongst posters is undoubtedly part of the reason this is a popular forum, 'rubber necking' is in our nature, even thou most don't like to admit it openly. It can obviously sometimes cross a line thou, but that line will somewhat vary vastly amongst various posters, think most know themselves when they regret certain comments they made, I doubt i'm unique.

Fair enough, I waste enough time on here so I’ve never really given it a go. Just going off what I hear.

As you can probably tell, this is my social media poison of choice. I use Twitter occasionally and I have Facebook but rarely use it. I think this new board has been much better than the old, but we are missing a number of posters who like to be controversial and frankly quite abusive and unpleasant. I am sure they will wander over once the old one goes, but this is an open forum and it takes all sorts of views to make it interesting.

I think social media in the right circumstances is great its just the knobheads that spoil it, I hope this place carries on the way it has started ,I suppose time will tell .

I am sure if you tracked the old site spats and arguments (some which became too personal and aggressive), you could narrow it down to ten posters. Out of the ten I would suspect 5 were repeat offenders too?

There’s a big difference between disagreements and standing your ground to some of the bollux we had to read (Hulk often at the core).

Much the same as I posted earlier on the Caroline Fleck thread and can't agree more, it's how the original board was.

There was no falling out and calling people out just discussion, opposite views at times, a lot of leg-pulling, and basically a nice board.
Hopefully this board will stay that way but I for one will not hold my breath

Be nice if some of the more obnoxious posters stayed away

Must say my daughter has been affected by this - never seen her behave so solemnly - she had 3 friends over earlier and it was deathly quiet. Maybe there has been an awakening, however we know from Princess Di and how the press have been to Meghan, it doesn't last long.

Hulk was pure box office, I miss him myself. Sadly his ever growing star status inevitably meant his appearance fees escalated to a point that was no longer financially feasible for AVFTT, or so I read somewhere online.

First got into football social media by the old 606, and first came across many posters on here there. Used to be pretty good natured banter, particularly because it was multi club. I totally get the disagreement on here and old here, but never got the need to abuse the person with whom you were disagreeing. Trolls have mental health issues and need help.

Absolutely.
