The Conservative (Party). time for criminals.

So it seems that apart from the endemic corruption within Boris Johnson's government our Tory masters have been offering a helping hand to the ordinary criminal too.
Violent crime up 116% since 2015 yet the number of criminals charged is down by 26%.
Hate crimes up 56%
Record low conviction rates for rape with attackers being allowed to roam free.
Knife crime up in every police authority.
Preventative measures such as youth services, addiction services have been decimated under the Tories. Police services have been cut.
Courts have been closed meaning the backlog of cases has massively increased. Taking 3-4 years to get to court reduces the reliability of witnesses, increases the chance of errors being made or the victims giving up in frustration at the process.
Witness intimidation is rising.
Cuts to legal aid mean that we are heading back to a time where only the rich can make the legal system work for them.
And the pattern was established long before Covid came on the scene.

Name me a case that has taken 3-4 years to go court from the defendant being charged.

Beautiful day on the Gold Coast , people out here in the countryside with smiles on their faces, hopefully a Pool win today and the icing on the cake... Another OP from Cat who seems completely unable to shake off the ever growing chip on his shoulder.. love it Cat lad👍

You can argue the toss about who or what is to blame, but Cat is not wrong about the serious decline in our criminal justice system, and the rises in most types of crimes.
Covid will clearly have added considerably to the scale of the problems we face as well.

Good job we’ve got a right wing government then cat, god help us if we had a liberal, left thinking mob in

It would be interesting to see studies over the last decades with empirical evidence of what measures stop petty and more serious crimes. A case of getting most bang for your Buck?
The issue seems clear - we have cut the services you listed and crime has increased but does this factor in population growth as if there’s more people there would be more crimes tou would assume?

Ive read that there has never been a true double blind trial (for obvious equity reasons) where if a judge gave custodial to 50% and rehabilitation services non custodial to the other 50% to see the true impact on reoffending?

As I said I would assume you are correct Cat that the austerity cuts led to those figures but would like to know which ones were most important?

Obviously in a perfect world we would have world class education, social services, policing and rehabilitation- but without enormous taxation increases we will have to be choosy which which of the list are most critical? (Eg dramatically increasing number of Rozzers?)

Excuses can made, reasons can be put forward, the Tories can be held responsible but the real culprits for these figures... ** criminals!!!

The population hasn't gone up 115% though

According to you the increase is down to Boris and his mates committing crime after crime.
@catinstalbans - you really are a very dull man.
If we had Labour in power it would be like Columbia or Mexico here.

Lads you may as well just copy and paste one line into every one of Cat’s posts as you always say the exact same thing in response, and it’s never anything to do with the points made.

The thing is, when you try to disagree with a detailed and evidenced argument by resorting to personal insults, putting words in the mouth of the OP, or just making a lazy extreme ‘well if Labour were in charge Number 10 would be in Camden and we’d measure things in Michael Feet and inches’... you actually make yourselves look uninformed and out of ideas, and by contrast you make Cat’s posts look eminently more reasonable.

Here to help.

But there is evidence.
Norway has a 20% reoffending rate, one of the lowest crime rates in the world, by focusing on rehabilitation and restorative justice.
It invests heavily in its criminal justice system to good effect.

Also crime fell under the last Labour government while population grew so that explanation fails as does the lies of " it would be worse under labour"

But you see all of cat's posts are not about crime or vaccines or any other topic. They're about Boris Johnson.

Once you get through the first line it becomes clear:

Very true, but oversimplistic and at the end of the day totally unhelpful.
All societies have crime and criminals to differing extents.
Government actions, economic and social conditions are cause and effect on the extent and treatment of it.
The conditions have been created to worsen the extent of the criminal behaviour, the solving of the crimes, and the processing of the result of it all.

Therein lies the problem... excuses confused for reason. You rightly draw attention to all societies have criminals...liberalism devolves more and more responsibility from the offender onto the society.

It's possible for his post to be about Boris Johnson *and* X Y or Z political issue. After all, he is the Prime Minister.

I think I know where you’re going with this, and all I can say is there would be s lot of people with no hands.

We are very fortunate IMO to live in a liberal democracy, but if you are going to have a right wing government that is going to do a lot to albeit inadvertently foster the causes of crime they could at least keep the Police and Justice system functional.

So far so good for the Pool👍🤞

Sorry, got carried away before attaching my reply🤪. If your implying tougher sentence , not always but I firmly believe an offender should serve the whole sentence No reprieve for this that or the other. As to your criticism of this governments record on crime... it certainly isn’t faultless.

catinstalbans is not alone in behaving the way he does. But what he and others are saying, in essence, is that we should only debate the topics they want us to. And by "debate" they mean hold the same opinions they do.
Or you could just ignore the post.

Any thoughts on today’s win ? Only you don’t seem to appear on the Match day thread ?
Wrong person for that really, I've never posted on match day threads much, just not used to it.

Lots aren't on the matchday thread, are you suggesting Robbie (for example) isn't interested, he's not on it either.

Weirdly I did reply nicely to you just before you posted this, I forgot you were a wanker.

Three things I learned from this thread:-

Newholland, Glasshalffull and PoolSeaside are the only saddos who post on the politics board whilst the game is progress

Scara is still sulking about having his thread removed

20’s is paying royalties for using BasRob’s 2014 post

That's a damned sight better reply than all those before you on this thread, (Glasshalffull excepted). However, a perfect world should not be the only option. I'd welcome an imperfect world where our Government would at least try to improve the Police and the criminal justice system, rather than spout on about us having a 'world beating' everything when it's obviously not true.

Good to bring that to he Board's attention. PS. the brackets should be around the word Conservative.

I was trying to mimic those verbal reasoning tests where a common word ends one statement and starts the next rather than any grammatical propriety.
