The January 2026 Transfer Window.

Other teams getting buisness done. We’re so behind other clubs in lots of ways.
You do spout some panicky nonsense at times. A quick peruse of other clubs business shows them mainly sending loanees back to their parent clubs and recalling their loanees from the club's they loaned them to. Same as us pretty much .
See how we've done 5 weeks after the end of Jan for a better indication

Who’s praised our recruitment? 2 average keepers. Ihiekwe well past it. Ebiowei weird signing got rid after a month. George Honeyman big wages just runs around like a headless chicken. Jordan brown either passes backwards or to one of there players. Josh bowler weak as piss has done nothing in the game since he left us.
Nobody praised our recruitment in the summer did they not?

So thats two you’ve written off already.

So who should we be going for someone like Semenyo or is he not good enough?

I’d really like to know the standard of players who you think we should be chasing because I really do think you are going to end up being disappointed setting hopes so high.
"Someone like Semenyo"

What a ridiculous statement that is

I'd like us to sign players based on several factors, ones we've researched properly, be that from academy football a'la Olly Casey
or on the back of successful loans a'la Danny Imray
or based on previous success at our level a'la Niall Ennis

Whoever we sign they have to be good enough unlike Paul Mullin
And if you've previously had a player and that player spent over half his previous spell injured then I wouldn't go there again, so yes I've definitely written the 2 off that you mentioned for the genuine and proper football reasons I've given.........I certainly didn't come back with some weird fantasy response about Antoine Semenyo 🤡

As long as they're better than your suggestions I'll be happy

If we get in players on loan that are currently not favoured by their parent clubs, it makes sense to negotiate a buy option now. If they do well with us and we do want to buy them later down the line, they will be more expensive than the option we could negotiate now. This is the sort of thing that a DoF should help the club/owner with, let's see.

There are another 10 days before we play our next league game, so no immediate panic when the squad will be heading down to Ipswich on Friday anyway. We know what we need, we now need to show a bit of patience, we could quite easily sign 3 or 4 this week, but I'd prefer we get the right 3 or 4, even if that does take a few days longer.

nice to get a new payer settled in and team tactic ready.

When would that happen? Evatt will be focusing on the team and system for Ipswich this week and will be heading down with the team on Friday. No doubt the next training session will be planned for Monday or possibly Tuesday after the game, to allow players a bit of much needed rest. If we do bring someone in, they'll only be introduced to the squad on Tuesday at the very earliest in any respect.

Even so, it must be better to have a player in earlier rather than later.

I'd assume (hope) Evatt has given whoever a list of players he wants and then it's up to them to get them signed freeing Evo up to concentrate on Sat. If they signed today they'd be involved in training and would no doubt travel, not to mention getting to know the players.

Never too early or wrong time to sign players. The earlier the better imo.

I agree but only if they are the right players. I'm merely advocating patience and allowing the club to bring in the players Evo needs. He's confirmed there are funds available and we are active, so signings will happen.

Yes, only for the right players. And for Evatts players.

Hadn't heard about funds being available so that's good.

Yeah and different deals take different amounts of time depending of who and the circumstances, can be deals waiting on the loaning club getting something 1st before they let x go. It's different each time and no guarantees.

Some decent prem loans may happen near the end, if they're good enough to improve us then they'll have multiple offers and sometimes we might need them not be going to the championship and then they may drop to league 1.

I'm sure we'll be doing all we can on our targets.

Downes seems to now be the easy target when in reality we don't actually know who we missed out on due to luck, more attractive clubs coming in, budget, timing etc. We don't actually know who would take what portion of blame for signings deemed not what we want or thought.

Also of the players we did sign you can make a case for most of them being decent or being what Bruce and that plan wanted.

In recruitment you'll always get some that don't work out, hopefully not many, but we'll learn more what we can recruit under Evatt in the next 2 windows.

Should give us an idea about our recruitment set up.

Right manager just a few years later than he should. Some players may adapt to new role Bloxham, Bowler,
Coulson, Lyons as cover
I know he's trying to reinvent Bowler as a number 10. Seen nothing to suggest that's going to be successful. Doesn't play with his head up enough & yet to pick a decent forward pass.

Very often there is no one to pass to with a forward pass, might well be different when Ennis is back.
DJ was always trying to find space to give options.

Dembele
Rhodes
Offiah
Imray
Horsfall
Ennis
Taylor
7 out of around 25 signings under his watch is not exactly a good hit rate. 5 of them are loans with 2 then joining permanently, one of which didn’t work out and one which could but he’s been out injured for ages. Taylor has also spent more time in the physio room than on the pitch so to describe him as “very good” is a bit far fetched.

Let’s face it, Downes has been an abject failure in his role as sporting director.

Fletcher’s turned out to be a very good signing and enough clubs showed an interest in Honeyman as well, yes he’s disappointed to date but at the time was classed as a top signing for us as was Scott Banks.
Of course there’s been a good few who’ve turned out to be poor signings but it’s like that at every club, not every signing loan or permanent will be a success,in fact if you have a deep dive you’ll find it’s quite the opposite.

Add Fletcher, Morgan, Joseph, Bloxham, and Brown to the list too.

I think Downes has generally been good at bringing in players, the problem has been the manager molding those players into a cohesive team.

My critique of Downes is that as a sporting director, he needs to be looking longterm with the recruitment, backing Bruce over the Summer with players meant to play a 4-4-2 was foolish if there was a possibility of sacking him for a manager who plays a completely different system.

A succession plan was clearly not in place and that’s what he’s paid the big bucks to prepare for.

Very similar to us sacking Appleton for McCarthy right after we brought in players for Appleton’s 4-3-3.

The decline in quality of the squad and our league position tells me all I need to know about Downes 👍

People need to realise David Downes earns money to try to buy players all year round it’s his job. So not having one lined up when he knew of all the injury’s we have is embarrassing. Get him gone to fuck

Not much business being done right now. People can’t wait - like excitable kids at Christmas.

I don’t think CJ will be a Blackpool player for too much longer or Evans

We may as well have a little word to Ipswich about Elkan Baggott whilst were down there on Saturday, I'd have him back in a heartbeat!
Me too and ideally on a permanent. If he gets going as a big footballing left sided defender, he'd be a) very useful and b) very resale-able.

I rated him for a 21 yo. Sadly I think Ipswich won't be looking to sell and we're a long way north to move!

Evans is very influential off the pitch. Setting standards, leadership etc. For that reason (and that reason only, I think he’s cr ap) I suspect he might stay even if it’s as a squad player.

He's contracted until 30.06.28.
