THE LOAN MARKET

This is going to have a massive influence on our season and we really need to get it right this season. We were not as effective with loans early on last season with Woodburn and Kemp...this was improved later with the additions of Gabrial Ballard Simms and Embleton and they all played big roles.

We are short in a number of areas and the loan market could be a vital component. John Joules looks decent but we still need some quality additions with a number 10 creative midfielder top of the shopping list. We may still need another pacey striker to complement Yates (this may still be Simms again) and I think right back and central defence are still a big worry against some of the high quality attackers we will encounter this season.

Anyone else think the loan market could make or break our season?

I hate taking too many good loans as if they are successful it generally means price at least doubles and as is the case this season potentially 4 good players who will not be in tangerine again which puts you on the back foot planning squad for the upcoming season.

They have often been the key to success for us though and played a key role even last season. The way I look at it is that all our rivals will be getting decent loan players and will have an advantage over us if we dont get anyone in. The good news is that Critch seems to be well respected and some of the bigger clubs such as Arsenal, Everton and Liverpool will be happy to let some good prospects come here knowing the player will be coached and looked after. That can only be a good thing.

If we spot the potential early and put in sensible offers for these starlets, we have them longer term and gain a massive financial benefit when we sell.
Ballard is still at least 2years away from gaining regular starting place at Arsenal, so I am sure we could buy with the option of first refusal to the selling club and an agreed transfer fee if that were to happen

Our success over the last 15 years has always been underpinned by the use of loans. If we can get a couple of star signings it will make a huge difference.
Yeah, that was needs must though as they wouldn't buy players we wanted hardly.

We should still utilise the loan system but as seen we have lost a spine of our team almost and thats hard to replace, as is showing.

Last season's experience suggests the best loan deals are done later, at the end of the window, or in January. For obvious reasons.

I dont think Ballard is an Arsenal player tbh...I think they will sell him...maybe to Millwall eventually
