The player we let go too early?

Just thinking about Tony Weston - is there an example of another player (whether they went on to do something or not) who you felt we let go too quickly and who could have really progressed with us?

Everyone was raving about Harrison McGahey a few years back but he's at Scunny now.

I'll go a bit left field and say Richie Wellens. I know he couldn't stand Hendry - he was very much a McMahon man - but had he grudgingly hung around he could have been Grayson's captain in the promotion season.

I always remember losing him to Oldham and thinking... "Oldham, really...". I thought he'd go to someone a lot bigger.

Trevor Sinclair. We should have got another season from him. The Oystons couldnt wait to get him to QPR and take the money.

Regarding Tony Weston I really don't think it's a case of the club letting him go . He couldn't actually sign a professional contract with us till he turned 17 . If he goes on to have a great career, which hopefully he will, it will still be pretty painful knowing we were his first club.

But maybe that'll come back to benefit us somehow... wishful thinking maybe.... but maybe!

Tilt (no I don't expect everyone to agree).
Agree and disagree.

Some of our fans don't appreciate quality, but tilt wanted to go for best part of 18 months so dont think we let him go.

On the note of our fans and judging a player I notice Chris Basham just got player of the season for Sheffield United, a top half Premier league side. Apparently wasn't good enough for us though.

Basham - Lundstram- Fleck all vastly improved at The Blades compared to their time at Blackpool.

Identical twins I think 🤔

Whatever he is called he impressed me in both games last year. I'd completely forgotten about him cos he was a boycott era player who I knew by name alone and when I checked 'who is the busy lad playing for them' it clicked that he'd been with us.

Just seemed to be full of determination to make something happen. Hard to put my finger on what I liked about him, but he bustled and ran and seemed to influence the game a lot.

Going back a bit, but Tony Evans, and to a lesser extent Stuart Parker who I think left at the same time, both could have been useful to us I think?

Blackpool lost 2-1 to Liverpool one night at BR in the mid sixties. Bill Shankly offered £60k for EH on the spot in the Pool Boardroom. We took it !. That was a lot of money then.

Beat me to it.
Spoke to a cleveleys family 20 years ago .
Massive Liverpool fans .
Bought season tickets at Anfield the day Emylyn moved there.
Never been Blackpool fans since.
That's a bit extreme but he was a very talented lad who could easily have stayed another season and could have got more for him. Decent business for Liverpool

Telford?
Not exactly pulling up trees is he?
Agree the others
Not pulling up trees. But I’d have liked to have seen a product of our academy come through and go on to have a solid career in League Football at Bloomfield Road rather than anywhere else

Grant Holt- had some very good years at Norwich
Unsure whether he was ours on loan or on a permanent basis but I remember he played for us at some point

I wonder if we could have kept Matt Phillips and Tom Ince a bit longer if we'd have had decent owners with reputable ethics!
