The random defeat that always sticks with you?

Proper random, but it still irks me was a Tuesday night game that we lost 1 - 0 at Stockport in 96/97.
It was in the Third Division, which was then called The Second Division and is now called League 1 🙄

We absolutely ,totally outplayed them in all departments. We scored three seemingly good goals that were all chalked off for one reason or another. (No VAR around and I don't remember ever seeing the three disallowed goals on TV)

Udo Onwere was then sent off for what , even now, would be seen as a "soft sending off" and Stockport scored with the only shot I remember them having.

Bury, Stockport and Crewe were promoted and we finished 1 place short of the play-offs.
Yes that's Bury (no longer in the League), Stockport (no longer in the League) and Crewe all promoted to what is now the championship.

At the end of the season, Megson left us to join "a bigger club" and went to Stockport 🤣

Btw - Spellcheck showed Stockport as incorrect and wants to replace it with Stockpot 😆

Pete, yeah was there that night. Absolute robbery.

Yeovil away, 2013. Lost 1-0 to bottom of the league, when we were pushing for promotion under Ince.

Down to eight men eventually, on a Tuesday night, with a hell of a trip back!

It was the start of the losing run that cost Ince his job and made a Barry Ferguson escape job necessary.

I'm the same, set off at 7am for a 7.45pm kick off. Shite ground, shite game, always said that game was the beginning of our downturn

Yes, I was there for that debacle! Do you remember an incident with Ince Jnr at the end when they came over? He got dog's abuse that night; utter, utter garbage! Luckily stayed over, but what a s**t hole of a place!!IMG_7726.JPGIMG_7727.JPG

Watford 7-2. When we were 2 nil up at half time.

To compound it we were in corporate, trying not to look too smug as Luther Blisset consoled the home fans. I don’t think we stayed for the pies or to say cheerio after the final whistle.

Carlisle away 2006.

We were absolutely fantastic second half of that game and really kick started our season which obviously ended in promotion.

I think it was Shrewsbury away under McMahon when we were pushing for the Play Offs and instead recorded our 18th (and I think final) defeat of the season!

Trammo, wasn't it Giggs that came on at 2-0 down? Ferguson stuck him in a withdrawn left side role and he just picked passes that opened us up. But we were better than them for an hour of that game.

So many to choose from! But the one that really upset me at the time was Wigan in the Prem, we just shut down that day. Nerves or what, I don't know but the team didn't function as a unit, the majority had an off day, and no-one wanted the ball. It was only at 3-0 down we made some sort of start. Their third goal, the awful deflection, just seemed to sum the day up. Horrible to watch against a team we'd outclassed on the opening day.
Correct it was Giggs I was in the east & it was a real masterclass unfortunately. Matt Phillips was having a stormer, Giggs read him like a book.
