The Summer Transfer - Thread Part 1.

Huddersfield will probably go into meltdown if we take another target off them, wonder how many still have their ticket stubs from that abandoned match by the way

Never liked Wilks when we've played against him, but would be a WOW signing up front for us and would give us a bit of attitude.
Plus what would it do to Huddersfield?

Great start to the window so far, Bruce addressing our poor back line was needed.

Two GKs (one perm, one loan) + a CB and RB on loan and our back line is good.

Exciting few weeks ahead.

I really hope Lyons has a good preseason, interesting one this but can see a loan out to January would benefit if he is fit there is a heck of a player available to Mr Bruce

A friend goes to his partners Pilates Classes and Andy has and will be training all summer., hopefully he will be as fit as Kyle Joseph was last year after his similar training programme👍

It’s why I’m not overly disappointed about him leaving. Once he’s got his new deal there’s a real risk he just reverts to the player that we saw for most of his time here.
Yeah I don't really buy this thing that only Steve Bruce mastermind worked out how to play him. He had four years and clicked just before the end when contract time was looming.

Let carey go. I couldn’t care less. Had a good 10 games in 4 years
If he had any intentions of staying he’d have signed already
He’s waited for a better offer before us so sod him. Much better out there
Blackpool fc bigger than him
Rant over **

Hope he does well at Derby. The idea he only played towards the end of his contract is rubbish to me, he was played in a free role that suited him and was given a run of games something the rarely happened in his time with us. In fact every time he was given a decent run of games he provided. People have short memories it was Sonny coming into the side back end of last season that coincided with our late playoff push.

He’s better than League 1, just hoped he could have got us out this league before he got out this league, rather than join somewhere else.

A run of games rarely happened 💩. Critchley played him virtually every game for around 2 years. He had far more chances to show what he could do than most, yet he continued to disappoint. Even under Bruce, what did he do this season prior to the last few games, bugger all. If he wasn’t playing for a move Burtons window will be getting a new display.

Fair ish comment, I just wish we'd got more from him in his four years and I don't put it all down to head coaches missing him myself. I'd compare him with Albie Morgan, who has played well throughout this season despite being diagnosed with diabetes. And played well the previous season under Critchley. Doesn't need the wind blowing in exactly the right direction in order to perform.

Ninety nine % of players who have abilty show it and it does'nt matter what area of the pitch they are in. How consistent was Carey over the 4 years he was here not very IMO. Floated through games on many occasions and he isnt the finished product by a long shot !

If we lose Carey we will have lost a very good player for nothing. All this he played for his contract bollocks is just that. Critchley absolutely ruined him, he didn't play him where he should of, it's only since SB and the coaches worked out the best place to play him and he was outstanding, you don't just do that because you want to attract other clubs, he could have done that a long time before if Critchley hadn't been such a useless prick.

On what grounds is he better than league one?

On the grounds of watching a game of football and being able to see that somebody is a good player. Critch shoe-horned him into the side wherever he could, dropped him constantly. Bruce found a position that suited him, gave him freedom and he was literally our best player in the last ten games and we would have finished closer to the playoffs had he not fell injured.

We had nobody who could strike a ball like him, nobody who could turn defence into attack like him, his ability to create space with / without the ball was the best in the squad. He has all the attributes of a very good player and Bruce managed to do what Critch couldn’t.

Put Apter in that role and you would get a better goal return, as shown by his recent hattrick

What you mean Apter who played on the other side of midfield to Carey and literally didn’t produce the same numbers?

Looking back it was Mansfield at home he started regularly playing Carey on the left. From then, the 15th Feb, to the end of the season he scored 8 in 10 games. In the same time Apter scored 4 including that hat trick.

Somewhat disappointing that there doesn’t seem to be much happening after the excitement earlier in the week. We have a lot of work to do to build a squad and it would be good to get the core of that in place before pre season!

Alas he wants a new start

Such is life

There’s loads of things happening in the background I’m absolutely sure of it. We’ve made a good start. I think we’ll sign Ennis.

Matthew Apter, Rob's younger brother, is out of contract at Everton and is awaiting on news of whether they still want him.
Don't know anything about him unfortunately. The only time I've seen him was when he was watching Rob.

Patience! It's not a trolley dash. It's a complex business getting each signing over the line. We will have players arriving from now til the end of August, like every other club. And if you act in haste, you tend to repent at leisure. Of course, every attempt will be made to get key signings in for pre season. But some will arrive later, it's just how it is.

I know, just feel like we have a lot to do and having the squad together for pre season will give us the best chance of a successful season 👍
