The Summer Transfer Thread - Part 2.

All encouraging noises!!

Yep.

Brucie - “All credit to the owner too, his ambitions have always been to take the club up and around the Championship. He’s given us a healthy budget to achieve it, so we’ve got to put that into practice. It’s difficult because there’s a lot of good teams, but I’m delighted with what we’ve done so far."

Sounds like the remaining signings, even those likely to be fringe players, will be decent quality.

A striker, winger, RB, keeper, midfielder?

Do we need 2 strikers?
If we play with 2 up top, you'd want 4 in rotation of good quality.

Key for me is where he see's Bloxham long term - he played a fair amount as a second striker last season, that might be the way to get him and Apter in the same side.

Fletcher, Ennis is 2 obvious one.

Bloxham is a maybe third, but i see him as a RW personally.

Then you're into Kouassi territory, I think we'd want better than that.

Full backs are crucial in our league , we need another striker, Second keeper and a creative type player gets you on you feet , main play maker

When we first brought Bloxham in, he had a really good partnership going with Apter on the right. Bloxham wasn't quite the same player when he returned from injury but I wouldn't mind seeing it again.

Encouraging signs for definite! Haji only played 50 EFL games at 24 is concerning though
Surely Aaron McGowan one be better option L1 captain last year and played over 300 ?

Anyone in the know got any winger names also?

Because it’s a bold statement isn’t it? What if a brilliant deal comes along in 4 weeks for a permanent player? Just seems a very rigid plan.

I also can’t imagine signing a GK on loan after we signed the Argie. They’d both want to be #1. Of course the perm could be a GK.

Just doesn’t make sense to me. That’s all.

People who work at the club will claim to be itk when they’re not. Those who are actually ITK I doubt would be unprofessional enough to leak stuff
It wld be good if we wld stop calling Franco "the Argie" wld be the same if you said the Frenchie or the Jerry , he's a human being and seems a good guy.

I'm hoping after the rest and a good pre-season, we will see the Bloxham we had before his injury, he was outstanding.
Seemed to have lost that burst of pace when he came back.

Bruce said that's we want 4 or 5 and there's one or two we are still working on. Which maybe implies there may be one or two more permanents, and the rest loans, perhaps? 🤷🏻

O'Donnell may earn £10,000 per week if he plays for the first team, but that is unlikely to happen unless there are injuries.

He is being hired as a reliable backup keeper who is content with that role within a squad.

We paid around £400k for him didn’t we ??
I cant find anything that even mentions what we paid or how much the sell on clause was. I remember at the time the numbers being thrown around were between £750k and £1m, but i can't find anything substantial on verifying that, just rumours.

Probably need 2 RB's given Lyon's injury record and that he hasn't really been trusted there when he was fit, perhaps one of them a loan.
Don't think we'll take that gamble, as can't others cover in an emergency, maybe even CJ.

Think if we only had 5 spots we would be unwise to waste 2 there.

Definitely need 1.

I don't see how having 2 RB's is a gamble, and I don't think Lyons should be one of them.

In terms of spots available, excluding Sassi etc, I think we've got 15 outfield players signed, so striker, winger, 2 RB, midfielder, and that still leaves 2 spots vacant.

Keepers don't count towards L1 squad size.

I think we could bring someone in that can cover multiple positions like Aaron McGowan, he can play CH, RB or LB. Someone like him would be ideal.

Not that I can't see it this window under Bruce and I feel we still might bring in a Tom Bloxham who has that high ceiling but I just get the impression we're less likely to go for these types of players, half decent who can play two or three positions to make up the numbers.

There seems to be more of a focus around quality over quantity this summer in particular & not so much of the scattergun approach that brought in the likes of Ashworth & Dan Sassi amongst others previously.

I feel we're more into bringing in oven ready top end of League One & in Honeyman's case certainly Championship players who are ready to make an impact from the get go in this division and for what it's worth I'm all for it.

Stockport just broke their transfer record for Mothersille from Peterborough, for those who think they might fall away after last season. £1m plus apparently.

They also sold their best striker to Charlton for £1.5M. Mothersille is bang average, so I'd say it's a downgrade.

Opinions vary, but they sold a striker and immediately reinvested basically all of it. They have a very good owner and will be bringing in more quality. Stockport should challenge again IMO.

I'm not saying otherwise, I was responding to the comment about them spending that money, it isn't a case of strengthening, it's replacing. Will he do as well as Tanto? Will their new CB be as good as Horsfall? Will their momentum have been checked a little? I suspect they will be up there but doubt they'll do as well as last season.
