The Vaccine - who gets it first

(Apologies if similar has already been posted.)

and just as important who gets it last. Presumably The queen, MPs, and the establishment will get first dibs. NHS staff and other key workers will be up there but then, who?
The vulnerable and elderly? Those with underlying health issues, other workers cos we need to get the economy moving? Will you be able to buy it as with other drugs? Maybe there will be a black market for it. I can see trouble ahead.
 
The papers were talking about the UK not getting priority at all. The WHO concern is that African nations will be in virus meltdown by then and they will be given first dibs.
 
I think it will be the people on Oxford who got it today 👍

...and I bet you can buy it when it comes available - and yes I will be buying it for my family once it is proven to work - assuming I have not died by then already!

...and I will not be apologising to anyone either for that action!!!
 
If a vaccine is created, the first to receive it should be hospital staff, followed by the most vulnerable. No doubt the first in the trough will be politicians and the rich and famous.

I'm classed as a Key Worker but would be horrified if I were to receive any future vaccine before those who are more vulnerable.

I suspect there will be a long wait before we get to that point when most likely it'll have done major damage and fizzled out a bit.

As a nurse who frequently vaccinates people for influenza and also takes blood from people with HIV, I doubt we will eradicate the disease element of COVID-19 by accelerated production of vaccine. Of course, I’d love to be proved wrong.

There is still an onus on education, adapting to healthier lifestyles and shielding at-risk members of the population.
 
They will test it on less vulnerable groups first (18 to 50 year olds) as there is less danger to the guinea pigs. If that is successful they could in theory then expedite an approval for that group before completing trials on other groups and extending approval.

Getting the vaccine out quicker to less vulnerable group would quickly reduce infection rate and help protect the vulnerable. Obviously one full approval is given the most vulnerable should be the priority.
 
NewburyOne is sadly right imo.
The rich and famous over those in the front line.
Those deciding the pecking order will be at the top.
 
I'm sorry but there won't be a successful coronavirus vaccine. We've never been able to create one yet so why should it change?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news..

But the novel coronavirus has spread worldwide so much more research being done than with other local epidemics and the mild coronaviruses. Only time will tell.

NHS and key workers absolutely deserve to be first and that’s coming from someone who’s gonna be stuck indoors until there is a vaccine

I have to disagree. There is a project on like the Manhattan Project to create a vaccine, they will not and cannot be beaten. All problems are solvable, it just needs resources, as this is an existential threat to Homo Sapiens.

Athers, absolutely right. over 70s should not get special treatment. There are others whose work is far more important.
I'm speaking as an over 80. 😕

I can’t as I am not a Bio Engineer!!

Although Oxford University specialists seem quietly confident, whose opinion I would always take over anyone on here 👍

There are no guarantees in life granted, but the best minds in the world are on this and it’s funded beyond belief - therefore I am hopeful but time will tell.
 
Well they found it for flu and we get jabbed up for it each year and the amount of money they are chucking at it. it will come as no surprise if they do come up with something even if it's a suppressor of it.

Saw a lovely bunch on north prom having a few bevvies. One 'mother' effing & jeffing at her small child for wanting to go home.

I can think of an injection I would like to give them, but it's not a vaccine !!!!!
