Thoughts at the halfway point?

I think we're 6 points off where we should be. So disappointing to lose to both Plymouth and Gillingham, the Ipswich game should never have been rearranged when it was, the AFC Wimbledon defeat (although that was a catalyst) and the usual Christmas calamity (bloody Shrewsbury again .. and Bristol Rovers 🙄). Actually I'll go further and say that we should have won 3 of those 6 defeats but then I think we have got away with a couple of wins along the way as well.

However, we are where we are and I would say we need 15 wins from the last 23 games to be in with a chance - and I do think fully strength we can win15 more games especially as 13 of those games are at home and just 10 away.

I think the start has cost us but those defeats to Bristol Rovers and Shrewsbury were so annoying - even two draws would now have been decent.

I feel like I did in the new year of 2001 under McMahon. We'd struggled then played manfully in the first half of the season then it largely came together in the second. Up the Pool!

As pitches improve I am sure our football will and teams will struggle against us.
We have also shown with half the side out we still have the battling quality to get results

My thoughts are the same....we will most probably come to rue those dropped points from our self inflicted shambolic start.

I feel like we've spent the whole season so far working out where our weaknesses are, addressing them but we haven't quite had enough time to do it all.
Early on we were terribly weak in midfield and defensively all over the place which culminated in the Ipswich debacle. Since then, we've brought in Ballard, Gretarsson, Dougall and Stewart, and along with Maxwell and Ekpiteta you've got a base there that is rarely going to get overrun. In fact not many teams will be able to dominate Dougall and Stewart in midfield when both fully fit and match sharp.
We still haven't addressed the lack of goals adequately, we lack that flair that often Hamilton has given us with his pace. So there is still work to do. I'd say right now with a fit squad to choose from we're well capable of going on a run to the playoffs, but we will lack the goals to claim top two imo. Plus the poor start makes it extremely difficult to get auto. Just my honest assessment - we have undoubtedly improved the team since this time last year though, and things are improving as we go on instead of going backwards like they did last season.

And Doncaster away when cruising 2 nil at half time, shit happens!

We had perfect pitches at the start of the season and actually when I think back to Plymouth we played really well. The problem is, a bit like last night, the majority of League One teams do not want to play football and spoil games, I think Critchley has become a bit wiser to that but I'd still like to see more accuracy from the keeper to the big man up top and hit teams hard on the break which with the pace of Kaikai we can.
