Thoughts on today

Well first game in a while, since Tranmere for me.

I think we have improved, which was to be expected and I expected, there was some decent passing mainly involving the 2 new loan midfielders Dews and Ronan. At times we made use of the brilliant for Feb pitch.

There was still a few poor moments, I think it was Heneghan who misjudged the ball first half and their man was in behind. Also Spearing gave it away needlessly a few times. Thought Bola made a few errors too, has done ok but I haven't seen much from him to tell me Macdonald shouldn't have a chance to show us again what he can do.

Whilst we passed it around better to a point there was still a lack of chances and shots for me. It was fairly even possession and they had more shots in total and 3 on target each.

But for their wonder goal they probably weren't going to get back into the game so its typical and made it more nervy than it should have been, but we got through it.

I dont think any of the forwards were particularly amazing, Fonz obviously coming on and making an impact and showing speed of thought and touch to dribble his way into what looked a fairly soft pen. Madine I would have kept on despite not setting the world alight but maybe Tuesday was in mind.

Gnanduillet did his usual average play and scoring a header and winning with Spearing to take the pen.

I thought Moore did fairly well and the keeper looks pretty good.

Overall though it was an improvement and we need still to create more chances and have more shots.

So we've now got that win out the way, bit of a monkey off the back, pressure lifted off the players and manager, ok only a bit as it wasn't a barnstorming win. But it was much needed and it was better.

Far better performance that and we played some good football, passing on the ground and movement was excellent at times. Of course there were nervy moments but thats to be expected given recent performances. That win will lift the dressing room. The midfield was very creative with the 2 loanees, and Madine upfront did a very good job holding the ball up, turning and laying off. I thought Moore had a very good game and he reminds me of Andy Morrison.

UTMP!

I thought the atmosphere today was very flat, obviously a lot uninspired from the run weve been on, let's hope that improves as we hopefully continue to improve and look like a football team again.

As a side note anyone know what's happened to Husband? I'm not saying to play him but seems a bit odd to sign him permanently and then hes nowhere near the side or subs.

Mostly enjoyed that game, felt a little relieved after pools first goal.
Thought the January additions all put in good performances.
Maxwell in goal made some good stops and is really quick and effective in distributing the ball setting the team moving forward. Nothing he could do about the goal.
Taylor Moore was superb, tackles, interceptions, running the ball upfield, passing.
Ronan and Dewsbury Hall both have very good control of the ball, good passing and interplay and lots of effort. Great to watch.
Madine also looked very comfortable on the ball and it would have been interesting to see him with Fonz upfront.
Gnanduillet remains an enigma. Consistently puts the ball in back of the net. Penalty could not have been better, low and fast into the corner. Great defensive headers. But he frequently has a horrible first touch, and although he can shift does not appear very mobile at times.
Weak link today in my opinion was Turton, several mistakes and poor first touches.
Would have liked Virtue to have been on the field longer.

Good thread, most enjoyable match for a while, hopefully an upward trajectory now but I'm not counting any chickens this season.

“we need still to create more chances and have more shots.’

Must say as pleased as I was with the win we didn’t dominate or test their dodgy defence or keeper enough - have to do better than that On Tuesday but the important thing is 90 minutes under the belt for a new team and the fact we won!

I have been out all day so haven't seen any of the game apart from the goal highlights so I was able to avoid the nail biting etc.,

I am delighted we have won, that is massive and we need to take that on to Tuesday night and continue to improve. My one worry is that we still haven't sorted out the 2 up front. Aren't Madine and Gnand's too similar? Do they really work? Are they ever going to do so? I still think we need either one of those two and then more of a poacher, a fox in the box, not sure we have anyone like that, maybe kaikai could take on that role.

Great to hear the new lads played well, we desperately needed the 2 midfielders, I think that is going to make a big difference. Moore is clearly a class act and Maxwell seems to have settled in well.

We need to gel quickly and it also sounds as if the jury is still out in relation to Grayson's tactics.

I thought the atmosphere today was very flat
GTF commented on this on Radio Lancashire. Said we got behind the team for the goals but went quiet and nervy again after they scored. Must say, fair play to their fans who I heard a lot more from than ours.

That said, I did find it funny on the way home to hear commentary of Fleetwood's winner and when it went in you could hear tumbleweed!!

I think a fair bit of apathy was around the place today. Heard the Simon Sadler chant, he knows what were after and were going up... but then everyone remembered were not so...

But was just very flat overall.
