Thoughts on tonight

At this rate, our red card tally will have overtaken our goal tally by the third week in November.
Chucking away games due to ill discipline or poor judgement is a sign of a team just not being good enough. If we are going to continue in this way, we can kiss goodbye to league 1 football whoever the manager is. And the manager isn't blameless of course.

Unfortunately, the number of questions are growing by the week with no real answer to last week's questions. Why is Robson continuing to take set pieces when he's useless at it? Why have we not done anything about our left side of defence which is shining like a beacon to all other manager and screaming "Test me out, I'm there for the taking".? Why did our recruitment not include at least one player with leadership credentials?

On tonight's game, I ended up feeling a bit sorry for the players left (only a bit!), because I felt they did their utmost to get us something, and actually really should've. The question for Critchley is, if those nine men can put their heart and souls into it for half an hour in adverse conditions, why can't the eleven that start. Our effort and urgency got better every time a red card was issued, and thats the sole reason we did ok and created several very good chances with two men less. It's so frustrating because if that effort and urgency and tempo had been there from the start, there's no doubt in my mind we would've won - Wimbledon were utterly dreadful.

I'm not even going to pass comment on each player individually, it's difficult to tell anything from that due to the changing circumstances. I will just say that we have still to find the right combination up front, and I'm starting to think there isn't one. We've brought in players because they're decent, with little or no consideration to whether they'll compliment each other or fit into a system the manager seems to prefer.

I think the nine that finished can say they did their best in the second half, but some of them need to ask themselves whether they did their best in the first half. Actually, the manager needs to be asking them that and dropping the ones that didn't. But does he have a hard enough nose. I'm not sure. I think he'll get more time, but each game is another one that passes where he fails to prove he knows what the problem is. I hope he gets it right, I really do. But it is definitely hope rather than expectation right now.

Would have to see the red cards again. Ballards looked more like a flailing arm rather than an elbow but i may be wrong?
If Madine takes the early header & sloppy defending doesnt allow their goal different game.
Battled on well with 9 tbf.
Maxwell made a couple of good stops.
Crossing & set pieces very poor.
Upside Had a few chances.
Unfortunately none of our players look up to the task of actually putting the ball in the net.
That is a major concern.

Agree with you. I've watched the red cards and the disallowed goal and i just dont understand them. kaikai is the only one who can put in a decent set peice, and amongst a squad of 20 odd players that is criminal. Ward put in two decent corners tonight. so maybe they are working on it becaus ethat is the first time this season we have produced anything at any set peices.

the goal scoring is the big problem, if we were converting the chances that come and there have been a few in the games so far i dont think we would have been quite so concerned about the defence.

the one thing from tonight would be to play all out attack and leave the defence to their general last ditch stuff which they did well in the second half.

My first reaction to Robsons challenge was that it could well be red, wasn't surprised in the slightest. It was just a lunge to me.
I can't comment on the Ballard one because I didn't really see it or the replay.

disallowed goal
Yes there didnt look a lot wrong with it to me. I dont like to blame refs and there may be an element of tangerine tinted specs but if he got 1 red wrong and the disallowed goal that is imo very poor. If he got 2 reds wrong and a disallowed goal its a disaster.
If we had taken a chance late on and grabbed a point most people on here would have a totally different tone.
tbh i think we probably deserved a point.

The Ballard one the referee didn't deem a foul till he stopped play and the 4 official came on the pitch to tell him. He sent somebody off for a foul he didn't see.

what the f)(k was that from mitchell hes a liability watched him just strolling back when they were attacking no urgency hes the full back for god sake and that attempt at goal well my 4 year old granddaughter would have done better he needs binning utter sh!t
ref was totally one sided rant over

Still think we are missing having an experienced manager. That referee was a joke.....for some reason he showed bias to Wimbledon right from the kick-off. Was he intimidated by the Wimbledon bench?

It is a big job, a total rebuild on and off the pitch and I am beginning think it is a step too far for NC. Tonight's game was a write off as soon as we went down to 9 men but at least we showed some fight. There is definitely something missing from how the team is set up and managed during the game.

Early impressions- we were done by the ref. 3 harsh decisions.
Critchley isn’t a ‘lucky’ manager.
The FA Cup could be his last match.
