Time to step up Ethan Robson

Thought he was going to be a big player for us this season and not entirely sure what has gone on with the lad but watching him come off the pitch on Saturday he seemed as pleased as anyone with the win with fists clenched and a big smile on his face. Hopefully he has that passion and can bring it to the team tonight if he's called upon.

Really hope the lad shows us his worth. Someone posted he was pissed off he got the boot from Sunderland which if so I support 100% Crichley is omitting the cheeky bastard from the squad but I really hope that’s not true.

Maxwell
Turton Gretarrson Thornily Garbutt
Ward Dougall Robson Kaikai
Embleton
Yates

Hopefully Gretarrson is fit enough to start and we line up like above. I like Robson and think he is ideal to replace Virtue. He had a good cameo at Oxford which should stand him in good stead. If we start with a similar hunger we will be very difficult to beat.

Robson could be good in an attack minded 4 2 3 1, I remember his pass for the goal when we beat either Hull or Portsmouth, this proves my point I cant remember who it was against but I remember the pass! It was quality.
He does have a tendency to give the ball away cheaply though, I think that is the part of his game he needs to improve on.

He has time to come good! Players don’t become duff overnight...

Virtue has the ability to both tackle and go forward. I have some doubts about Robson's tackling. Personally, I would have Gabriel replace Virtue
I agree about Robson v Virtue Pete.

I'd like to see Gabriel and Mitchell start as our wide players to put some pressure on their wing backs and hopefully force them back and put Kaikai playing behind and around Yates.

We need to be playing like a team that wants to get promoted if we are to get promoted. Saturday was a good start, tonight could be a real statement of intent!

Thought he had a tidy game last night - formation seemed to suit him.
That's the thing tho about Robson. He generally looks 'tidy' but he's rarely actually done anything more. He was great against Pompey at home and scored a cracker in the tinpot cup but I feel like he's never really more than 'tidy' otherwise

He looks better than Virtue on the eye but you see Virtue getting absolutely stuck in and bursting into the box and so on. Ward is even tidier, even more solid.

I really hope he takes his chance if it comes as for the first few weeks, I thought he looked like he was going to be mustard when he'd settled properly but it never really feels like he has.

I do agree with others that with a different set up, a squad firing around him, we could see the player that seems to lurk there...

Mad how he's gone from possibly the best of the signings early on to being just forgotten.

Pretty clear he wanted a move in January. No other reason for him to have been out of the squad for so long.

He's a quality player. Better than Virtue as a "footballer" as TD53 says but does he bring enough to a team chasing promotion? No. He isn't.

But cameo on Saturday was great and looked classy on Tuesday.

With Embleton out, hopefully he will be the player to step up against Sunderland .. and he should have good reason to!

Robson is another one who on the face of it looks like he's been miss managed

He was signed in the summer with a big fanfare

The number six

The ball playing upgraded version of Spearing

He actually started off ok for us in a poor system with very little help alongside him or behind him

We then signed 3 players who can play his role and he was discarded

He's only back around the squad now as we have so many injuries

I think his positional play has been poor and the reason he has been dropped, got bags of talent and I still think got a bright future, but chases the ball around like a school
Boy at times rather than keeping the shape.

We’ve brought him on in the last two games as the most forward of a middle 3 which is not his position.

Taking Embleton off cuts off our attacking threat whilst asking Robson to play in a position that isn’t his role. It just invites pressure.

The problem is we have no natural replacement for Embleton but clearly that’s the system so we just put players into it.

He made a good run looking for a one two with Yates but the latter turned and passed elsewhere. He has got a shot in him I wouldn’t rule him out of emergency attacking mid

I don't think he's been mis-managed. I think he's just not as good as other midfield options. He had his chance early in the season and unfortunately for him was part of a side that wasn't winning at that time. We get Dougall in, we improved, he misses out, we buy Stewart, we get Virtue back and he continues to miss out - that's football.

That said, he's a tidy footballer but whether he suits a role in a midfield 2 over Ward, Dougall, Stewart & Virtue I'm not sure but obviously with injuries to the latter two he may get a chance.

With Embleton's role being as it is now, I can see how and why we were looking at Keshi when he was fit in that role and I'm sure he'll fill that role next season....I can see Robson in that role too but I'm unsure whether he has the legs to do it for 90 minutes but I think splitting that job between Embleton & Robson could give us 90 minutes of pressure rather than sporadic moments as was apparent on Saturday.

I think Robson just lacks a bit of confidence and needs more game time, watching snips of him on loan at Grimsby he looked
highly influential, he certainly is a talented player.

I remember when we first signed him and the reviews from Sunderland fans were really encouraging and most were disappointed that they'd lost him (and to a rival club). My only thing with him is that, for me, he doesn't get involved enough. I want to hear his name mentioned more by commentators as quite often it almost feels like the game passes him by.

Given the injuries situation, Robson's time may just have arrived.

Our worst player in that last 10 mins - shocking free kick, gave the ball away, gave fouls away .. oh for a Matty Virtue or a Kevin Stewart!
