To Mask Or Not To Mask, That is the Question?

I was out for my walk this morning and two old blokes were stood talking wearing masks and then said goodbye and shook hands and weren’t wearing gloves!

Hot day walking down the road yesterday (massive road with loads and loads of space) and a couple of Herberts walking along wearing full NASA face masks looking like utter bell ends! Perspective people!

I noticed in B and Q this afternoon that more customers than I've ever seen in a supermarket were "masked up". Maybe it was a bit dusty? 🤣
(It probably is a good idea tbh - or at least, certainly not a bad one...I will have to make my own though atm as they are hard to buy)

Interesting Donk I tend to find the German approach quite sensible so surely there must be something in it?
Cheers for the bump btw 😁
This is what annoys me about the WHO and other well funded health organisations, they can't even advise us about the bleeding obvious.

- Cover your mouth if and when you cough or sneeze in the proximity of other people.

Or as my Nan used to say :-
- Coughs and sneezes spread diseases always use your hankerchiezes! 😁

That useless fecker Chief Medical Officer, Whitty Witless is still undecided. He’s part of the problem, giving Boris shit advice from the beginning.
It’s kind of bleeding obvious.
Probably more so than washing hands.
“Wholly unrealistic to expect life to return to normal soon.”

No Whitty. It is realistic.
Czech Republic did it in 3 days. So plenty of time before the next proposed easement of lockdown in 2 1/2 wks.
Commission / procure enough surgical masks. Distribute them.
For everyone else, instruct people how to make their own. Even the lowest 30% two-way protection is better than fuck all and hope for the best.
And don’t “recommend” people wear masks. Make it compulsory outside their own home. Cut through all the crap and vague instructions.

Calm down, it's a world wide issue and the WHO still won't recommend mask wearing.

Personally I'd like the Government to override 'the Scientific advice' offered by the WHO, but we can't say 'Listen to the expert scientists' then complain when the politicians do.

The WHO are equally useless imo.

Most of the scientists are recommending face masks. They have from the beginning- that’s what the disagreements were about. They are still calling for them now.

How many times does a sneeze take you by surprise & if you've got a wad of tissues in your pocket it erupts as you try to unfold it, making a it a bit like using a sieve as a condom. Droplets can remain airborne for considerable time, we share a couple of vans at work & all the hand washing in the world won't combat anything if someone has sneezed before you get in. There probably could be a good case made to wear masks, but we would all have to & we would need to change them on a regular basis, if they are struggling to get them for front line services then it's not going to happen. I guess we'll just have to continue to reduce normal contact where unnecessary & take our chance, until/if we get a vaccine/treatment.

Not sure if the WHO experts are all singing from the same hymn sheet?
I’m pretty sure there was one on Newsnight about a week or so ago advocating masks to stop those infected (you may not know you have it especially in the early days of your infection etc) from infecting the rest of us?

If the mighty powerhouse of the Czech Republic can get themselves organised in 3 days, it’s a poor deal if we can’t do the same. Got to have the desire and the will to do it though.
The procurement of products and services has been shocking. Why fly in PPE from Turkey and China (the defective batch), when there’s 36 UK firms ready and willing to get them out - all awaiting contact from this Gov.

Masks which prevent the wearer spreading the disease don't need to be up to the same standard as the type front line nursing staff need.

ie they don't have to be 'fluid resistant'. So they're isn't a clash between nurses and the public.
The press don't appear to have got their heads around this crucial point.

Exactly Don. It really seems like a no brainer to me that we should be wearing face coverings of some sort, especially when they ease the lockdown particularly where it is impractical to stay 2m apart like public transport.
Not sure how you would work it in cafes, pubs and restaurants where people are eating and drinking though!

Agreed, a no brainer, so even the brainless MSM should still be able to understand.

The press are making a big deal about NH needing PPE, (which is fluid resistant), but then glibly using the same term 'face mask' when discussing shopping or public transport.
