Today’s PMQs

To be fair the opposition is so piss weak they'll probably not even ask him.

As a Labour voter I have been appalled by the utter clusterfcuk that has taken place this week. Never thought I'd see a Labour government try to rush through a bill that makes the poor and vulnerable even poorer.
And the rest of the population

That was Badenochs best PMQs to date.
Though she had plenty of ammunition after last night.

Rachel Reeves looked visibly upset.
Totally agree. Reeves now knows she's vulnerable, especially when Max Headroom was asked about her future and he declined to show support.
Hes truly awful, and for a supposedly top lawyer looked visibly shaken with some of his responses

Reeves looks like she needs help and she needs to get out of the firing line.
I wouldn't be surprised if she has been told that she is already fired, it's just the timing of the announcement that is important. Starmer not guaranteeing her future is as good as a sacking.
I'd guess that she has been blamed for the U-turning sh1tshow we have just seen and the WFA fiasco and somebody has to take the flak.
It's very sad to see someone in that state, there is a human being in there and I am sure she thought that she was doing the right thing. But it's always events that get in the way. Anyway I am sure that the misogynists will be happy if she does go, all the 'Rachel from accounts' stuff has been disgusting.

So taxes will rise, as that is their only option so the working person will pay for the non working person even more. The way things are going there could be a General election sooner than anticipated and as Labour and the Tories continue to phuck everything up they will both get bounced. The Political system needs to move with the times, it's not 1969 FFS.

She's totally out of her depth, as to the misogynist comment you keep piping about rubbish just like Labour supporters taking a pop at Liz Truss absolutely nothing to do what sex they are just useless.

Most of that EBSN I agree with except the "Rachel.....". Why the misogynist dig? She deserved everything she got with the misrepresentation of her CV, and more recently her handling of the Economy.

Where I really do feel sorry for her, is what Kemi purported to, that being she's been a shield for that complete waste of space Starmer.

Im obviously not a Labour supporter, and personally can't stand the woman, but Id give Rayner a couple of years at the helm.

Reeves is going to be sacked and made a scapegoat to save Starmers skin but dont think it will work.obviously in 14 years in opposition Labour did NO planning and it shows. I have never known a front bencher look so awful, she had definitely being sobbing
I expect her to resign, possibly today.

It’s no surprise Labour are messing it up. They were doomed to fail from the start. Unfortunately there’s no credible alternative who would be capable of slowing down and reversing our decline.

Not sure about that, I think she's got skeletons in her closet that would come out if she were PM.

It's an s*** state of affairs, terrible as TTK is, there's nobody obvious to replace him, the most likely touted candidate is Streeting, great, a man with a career in the NUS (literally student politics) and various Labour affiliated organizations.

How's it misogynistic?

Male MPs have had all sorts of labels thrown at them, it's part of the game and it came about from her lying on her CV about her being an economist. It would be funny about anyone who lied about that.

1995 debt to gdp = 50%
2025 debt to gdp = 96%
Ring any f**cking bells?
Yes, 14 years of Tory financial mismanagement. Three years into Blair's Labour Government the ratio was 35.4%, the lowest since 1994. In 2007 it was still hovering around 35%. Of course the world-wide financial crash sent it spiralling across the globe. Even so, the Tories still managed yo get it up to 101.3% by 2023. Don't be fobbed off by Badenoch's rump of the Party. It was the Tories that created the shit show that Starmer is now having to manage.
This thread went bad in a hurry, didn't it ? And most of the usual obnoxious, crass embarrassments seem to be present and correct.

She could have had a bereavement, for all we know. Maybe people should wait until they know before they pile in.
This Board has more than it's fair share of right wing gobshites with shit for brains.

There was a big difference in the faces of Reeves and Rayner. Which shows that one of them is feeling the pressure, and one of them is seeing
an opportunity.

I think Reeves made a big mistake with her fiscal rules and has given herself no wiggle room except to raise taxes again if she wants to keep
to them. With over 1900 illegal immigrants by small boat crossings in the last 3 days, it is clear that Starmer's first year in power has been a failure.

I hate this government, but I really felt sorry for Rachel Reeves today. Any normal manager would have sent her home if the issues were personal, as has been said by her team. It just further goes to show that Starmer doesnt care about anyone but himself. Wouldn't surprise me if Starmer and his cabinet are gone by the end of the year, its just one cock up after another right now.

It never ceases to amaze me how many so called intelligent people of all sides can’t see or predict what effect there decisions will have on people or the backlash they will get for implementing them. Or are they like Trump where no one near they has the balls to tell them how bad they are

Badenoch : This is the first PM in history to propose a bill to save money who ended up with a bill that costs money," she said.

Guess she has forgotten about Brexit, then!

Kind of got me thinking. Does this whole sorry mess of an economy, Brexit, small boats, etc, go back to the Tories deselecting anyone who was pro Europe? They lost a huge number of knowledgable MPs and members, people with experience in business and international trade. People who could negotiate, saw different views and reacted to them. The smaller and smaller pool left did not have the ability to understand the impact of their intransigence.

I have nothing individually against Starmer and Reeves but as a team they do not compliment each other. Far too similar, both lack charm and charisma and are poor communicators.

Think starmers time must be nearly up, he’s an embarrassment as a leader, he’s just has no authority or confidence about him, he never answer any questions with a proper answer, he just deflects like a school boy might…awful….the country’s in a right financial mess

Really. Don't think so but something will be made up for the press people.

It all boils down to the same problem, they convinced themselves that they were somehow morally superior to the Conservatives, and all that was needed was for "the adults to be in charge", now they are in power they're finding it's a lot harder than they thought it would be.

This is why the whole thing is a mess, they never developed any policies in opposition because they thought they didn't need any, and they're making mistake after mistake because of this.

An inability to grasp the nettle at the beginning has dogged this government. If we could go back in time;
  • Level with the population while there is some goodwill. No money in the coffers, blackhole, blame the Tories etc.
  • Therefore the only responsible decision would be to cancel upcoming cut in NI - a lot of moaning ensues but they are taking away something that hasn't been given already. Could have actually said that it is postponed until the end of the parliament.
  • This move raises almost all of the money. Therefore no need for the petty salami slicing and the two disasters WFA and now this bill
  • Reeves raises the money and Labour MPS are kept on board etc.
  • The public, opposition are annoyed and go on about it but eventually forget.
Why didn't she do this?
The government are looking like a shambles despite having a massive majority - I'm not sure why Reeves was in the chamber today, better to let people speculate about your absence than to appear so distressed.
The trouble is that there are not any quick fixes but the electorate has come to expect them. On this thread we have had 'try Rayner', 'Starmer must go now', 'Streeting could do it', 'Nige will fix it by banning flags' etc., etc. Fixing this mess will take time - Starmer needs to continue but to find a narrative that fits with the positive things the government are doing. It's certainly a mess, but we do not need more political instability, that is actually worse.
