Tomorrows game

Gonna be a strange one for me.

Having been away for a month there's a good number of players likely to be playing who I've yet to see in a Tangerine shirt. Been loosely following the board this last month and it seems there's been plenty of positives about our new midfield players. As most will know I was a defender of Spearing on here simply because we had no one else who could play his position in the system we more often than not used. So yeah, how we have adapted without him will be a big watch for me tomorrow.
Do we have a holding midfield player in our current system?

Virtue has tried to do what Spearing does IMO allowing the two loanees a bit of a free role. MacDonald has been very good IMO too since he came back. We look decent in patches. Need a full 90 min performance but I can see progress.

There’s a lot more attacking intent since Grayson left. The lads on loan made a huge difference. Still nowhere near where we want to be but we’re slowly improving

Interesting point Athers. I can't say I'm investing much in this side because come the first game of next August this won't be the Blackpool team. It's almost like the season has ended at the end of February and we're going to watch the football not follow the club.

You'll enjoy seeing our new midfielders, Ronan and Dewsbury-Hall. They are full of energy, have great skills in keeping the ball when pressed and making an accurate pass. It's a shame they're not ours permanently, but we've always had good loanees in the past so it's not a new thing.

In the absence of Spearing I think Virtue has watched what the other two can do and upped his game. He's not playing Spearing's terrier role (who could?), but he's more defensive than previously and it's Ronan and KDH who get forward.

Our midfield tired on Tuesday playing a more high intensity game and Dunn should have put Spearing on earlier than he did. The same goes for the Nuttall-Madine substitution - hopefully Dunn has learned from that.

Thanks for the responses. Certainly, I hope we have more attacking intent but the gist of many posts while I've been away is that we are unable to kill teams off by getting that second goal when we've been on top. I've missed two wins against the bottom two teams and both victories just by a single goal margin. So clearly still a lot to work on.

I’d play Spearing instead of Virtue, but he has upped his game sufficiently to keep his place. No objection to being more forward thinking generally as a team. Same midfield again for me.

We have improved and the three best players have been the loanees but only by a bit.
We were dredfull second half against Bolton with no cutting edge Madine was poor and Fonz average and this against a team who have lost eight of their last ten games and we were lucky that it wasn't a draw.

Work in progress but for what none of them will be here next season so it's a sticky plaster over a gaping whole a new manager for me can't come quick enough to access what is here who he gets rid of who stays and who we go out and get.

As others have posted you'll like what you see with the two midfielder loanees..but Taylor Moore was also very impressive on Tuesday and looks to me like a very good footballer.
Some missed sitters and a sending off have cost us quite a few points while you have been away and up front we remain bereft which has been the main problem all season really...but at least we have a bit more firepower in midfield.

The 2 kids on loan have a nice 'busyness' about the way they play and both can certainly play football. Spearing will have role to play going forward, but I stick with my original view that the midfield needs more height and power to be more effective. The midfield is still too lightweight as a group and that's not good if we start to pushed back towards our own goal. Hatful probably makes the most accurate point though. This is a group of players that are passing through. Slightly ironic given the 'new dawn' for the club....

Virtue appears to have good upper body strength and definitely puts himself about.

I should have also added Maxwell who is very vocal and tries to get things going forward with his distribution and made a great save on Tuesday night.

It's a real tough one with Spearing. I'm a fan also but I do think we are better going foward with Virtue.
Spearing did however shore things up when we panicked a bit near the end and it might be he has to settle for that at the moment.
Turton has also played a lot better at right-sided centre back but that makes us a very small back three so despite that I'd swap him for Edwards and play him in the middle of the three.
I suspect unless Gnaduillet's fit, and barring any other injuries of course, it will be the same again on Saturday.
Finally as others as said Ronan and Dewsbury-Hall are a breath of fresh air.

Taylor Moore loses quite a few aerial challenges for a centre half. Not sure if he just mistimes his jump or what. To balance it though i do think he's a good player.
