In the late 80s and Early 90s there were some great opposition strikeforces about - some examples are below ....

Any favourites amongst these ?!

Brian Deane and Tony Agana (sheff Utd)

Steve Bull and Mutch (Wolves)

Tony Philliskirk and David Reeves (Bolton)

There were other top strikers like Luke Beckett and Dave Waller but I can’t recall whom they played alongside !!

Andy Walker and John McGinlay at Bolton were prolific for three or four seasons.

Sharp and Keogh - Scunthorpe
Chilton and Wagstaff - Hull City

Paul Barnes and anyone he played with, cos he always scored against us !!!

1981/2 - the Chamberlain brothers generally played well against us (Oxlade Chamberlain's dad & uncle) - EDIT for Port Vale
I can remember the midweek (Div 4) home game, which we lost 3-2 after leading; I almost cried in my beer after that match.
IIRC, on that occasion the Chamberlain's just got the 1 between them, but they assisted in the others)

Other partnerships which spring to mind (but not Blackpool's opposition):
Mick Jones & Allan Clarke - Leeds 70's
Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole - Man U (90's/00's)

Preece and Francis at Stockport.

Have I dreamed it or did Imre Varadi play alongside Shaun Goater in a real silk and something not silky at all pair?

Malkin and Muir at Tranny? (remember when we signed him, we all though he would be dead good!)

As above, Bull and Mutch were stuff of legend.

Wright and Bright!

Kevin Francis and Andy Preece scored squillions for Stockport in the early 90's.

Edit to add that Francis once had a medical at Bloomfield Road. He was to be a huge signing for us. Only thing was, Allardyce didn't want him at all. He "failed" the medical due to his "dodgy knees". How do I know this? A certain local doctor told me as I was working with him at that time.

I know the world and his dog will tell me I'm wrong, but I still feel like a big lad and little quick lad is a better way to go than a false 9 or whatever else they do now.

One lad mostly heads it, the other mostly runs about. If the big lad is bigger than the defender and the quick lad quicker, sorted.

My book 'outdated football tactics' is out in Autumn

Did Bob Taylor at West Brom have an established partner? He seemed to score about 25 every year for them?

Mayes and Rowland from Swindon.
If they were around today we'd have been signing both of them.

From playing against us partnerships I’d suggest:
Bob Taylor & Andy Hunt (WBA)
Bobby Zamora & Gary Hart (Brighton)
Paul Moody & David Rush (Oxford)
Andy Booth & Ronnie Jepson (Huddersfield)
Marcus Stewart & Peter Beadle (Bristol Rovers) - add Jason Roberts after Stewart left.
Robert Taylor & Nicky Forster (Brentford)

Others, though can’t recall who they played alongside; Paul Barnes, Kevin Russell, Kurt Nogan Jimmy Quinn (Reading), Shaun Goater
