Town centre improvements

There have been quite a few improvements in the town centre from new shop fronts to new venues like Vintro lounge.

Has anyone been in st johns square, the new outside dining is a good idea, looked great in the sun, buy from any eatery on the square and you can sit there.

Part of Blackpool Council and Blackpool bid.

Theres a lot of outside eating that obviously because more needed during covid, but its good to see things like this.

We went to quilligans 👍

St John's Square is perfect for a European style communal eating area. It would be nice if the improvements could be extended down Church Street to the prom in place of the charity/tat premises that presently make up the town's premier shopping street.

Yeah, although theres also a lot down Birley Street, also with the beach house looking better than ever inside now and the outside bit there too, there's plenty around.

Bit by bit its all improving.

I’m all for initiatives such as the al fresco dining area, but we seem to regularly fall short with the execution when it comes to attention to detail.
Is the Heras fencing in the photo still there?
Could we not decorate the anti-crash blocks (I’m guessing that’s what they are)?
It could look so much nicer with very little effort.

Yes there are some good improvements. Including those mentioned above.
Always helps when the sun is out. 😉

But then there is that proposed big black 5* hotel building on Central promenade, covered in seagull crap, which seems to have come to a standstill, and looks like a big mistake tbh.

Anyone know what's going on there?

No its gone, get a better look in this video, although still has some fencing but at least you can see the area in more detail.

Not my video by the way. Its changed since then.

Town centre really is taking shape with all the new projects going on.
Five star hotel and museum opening soon, conference centre, work in Progress at the new Hilton and Marco pierre White restaurant,Abingdon St Market, multi screen cinema,Merlin opening a new attraction amongst many other things in the pipeline. 👍

I hope Vintro’s fight to keep their lease, the proposed flats for that plot look ridiculous for the surroundings.

Where are the best places to buy a house in Blackpool these days?

That looks decent above but they need to fill the whole area with tables and chairs not just a bit of it. Maybe part of it could be for a new Cafe that has its own area, a Spanish or Italian place. Tapas, that sort of thing, Hot Chocolate & Churros in the morning.

Blackpool needs a Stack - its brilliant:
This is the one in Sunderland.

Poulton, Cleveleys, or LSA.

Poor picks those, I'll go for Formby, Abersoch and St Andrews.

Lol Outside Blackpool or in....

Clifton drive area, near Stanley Park, 4th and 6th avenue etc. Near North shore golf club, South shore near airport like stony Hill avenue, the nice area behind Trebaron with some big houses between school Road and progress way, the houses near the herons reach golf club and Newton Hall Holiday Park, many more

Definitely, they have them in Australia, it would be fantastic for Blackpool, and I’ve no doubt, a huge success. St. John’s square is imo a pretty poor attempt.

No, if you’re going to do something, do it well, or not at all. Half measures are not what’s needed in the town. I’ve got years of experience in hospitality and it could be a whole lot be.
Agreed and we need some proper investment in Layton where we could do with a Debenhams, Marks and Spencers and a Lewis'; a case of build it and they will come to a proper community that's the real big positive on the Fylde Coast.

Need the local club back in the community too but waiting on BST to get some momentum going on this 👍

Fine if you've got the spare money to invest in plans the council has already borrowed millions we need outside investment and with the pandemic has made it a lot harder.

have they still got those huge hideous overhead lighting disco arches down Birley Street that the pidgeons sit on all day in the centre of town? ..must have cost a fortune and do nothing than make the street look shite.
I remember a full colour 20 page supplement that came with the gazette about 10 years ago with huge 'futuristic' plans for the complete modernism of blackpool including the area around the ground...and nothing came of it..If only the council could add a tad sophistication rather than cheap looking tackiness to their designs and thoughts..

Every time I drive through the square that area has the fencing up. Do they just put it up at nights or do people eat in a cage?
I’m hoping that us night workers see a different town, otherwise we’re goosed.

Yes those huge arches are still there....at great cost.
Should have been down Queen St (if anywhere at all).

Yea, they're all oxidized, dirty and covered in bird shit. Wouldn't be so bad if they were maintained, but they look awful.
