Train or Plane?

Continuing the Charlton v Blackpool theme, in January 2002 we drew Charlton away in the FA Cup. A 300 seater train was organised but some other fans chartered a plane and were taking the Michael out of the train bookers about a 7 hour journey home. As it turned out due to fog the plane got diverted possibly to Southend from memory and couldn't fly home after the the game. If you flew down you ended up staying overnight and getting home late Sunday or even Monday. I was at centre parcs with my son and kept getting regular reports from both sets of travelling pool fans. Anyone on that plane or train?

I took my young Son on the train, but a half time conversation my Son overheard ensured we flew to Cardiff for the LDV Trophy final !

Yep, we all did the train. Bit of a nightmare journey going and coming back. Both seemed to take forever. Same with Arsenal on the special train too.

First flying to a game was Exeter v Blackpool March 2001. I think there was about 30 of us. I had a hotel full of farmers from Exeter on the day. Was back in Blackpool for 7pm serving the Exeter lads on my bar. We lost 2-0 and started with Brett Ormerod on the bench.

Wow that train was slow. Drove from Southport to get it. Seem to remember talking to chizzy in the buffet car.

Another on the train, aka Stephenson's Rocket. The carriages were from the 1930's or something daft.

Still, a great day out. Remember being impressed with the landlord of the pub we were in pre match as he was serving 8 people at once - we nicknamed him the octopus.

Train for me, I remember us raiding an off licence for the journey back, plenty of beer and a good sing song on the way back, fantastic.
