Tranmere next Saturday?

What happens if Tranmere refuse to play us at short notice by giving some excuse like we haven't got enough fit players?

It's been done before (ref Bolton vs Doncaster and others).

Can the EFL act or have they created a precedent?

Answers on a fag packet, please.

N.B. this is the first time I've posted on the old board and the new board with the same question.

Good question Curryman! Of course the precedent has been set because Bolton didn't suffer any punishment whatsoever when they refused to play Doncaster and so, in effect, they could easily come up with some lame excuse. However, as others have said, quite often the Christmas fixtures mean you play twice in 48 hours and as one is a home game and the other an hours coach journey, they can hardly complain about travel. What I've not looked in to is why it is being played on a Thursday night?

It seems odd to me - why didn't they play the replay on Saturday, rearrange the game at our place and then slot in the 4th round tie for the scheduled replay date?

They would admittedly still have a problem if the 4th round tie was then drawn, but this approach is unfair in three ways :

1) Watford play Saturday/Tuesday/Thursday/Sunday, potentially

2) Tranmere may do lasting damage to their pitch

3) Blackpool are left in limbo until about 40 hours or so before kickoff.

I'd love a job at the FA or EFL. I could hardly do worse then these people.

If Watford are playing two games in 48 hours, why shouldn’t Tranmere. In fact it might benefit them because Watford might play their kids on Thursday?

More revenue lost for the club if we don’t play on Saturday - that along with Bolton moved to a Tuesday and Bury gone is quite a loss of revenue!

Only just caught up on this and wasn't aware of it. BFC are continuing as if this isn't a scenario with a tribute to those who have died on Saturday and players and managers talking about the importance of the game. If it wasn't for AVFTT I would have been unaware and am surprised the official site doesn't have this splashed across it's front page?!

I bet if the 4th round game wasn't against Man United, there wouldn't be the clamour to get the game organised. Have a feeling that Watford will go with the ressies which will play right in to Tranmere's hands on a glue pot pitch. Sadly I think it'll be a Saturday with our feet up!

It's a nightmare for the fans also. No one knows who's playing who or when how do travelling fans arrange transport? Sorry I forgot we don't count.

Just tried to upload a photo and it doesn't seem to work!
