Travel insurance

Probably one for davepick, or anyone else over 80.

I’m hoping to visit my son on Sydney later in the year for three weeks and I’ve been looking at travel insurance. As I’m over 80, several companies won’t even insure me, even though both myself and my wife have no medical issues.

Those that will are quoting eye watering sums, anyone got any information regarding reasonable over 80 travel insurance?

Have you thought about a bank account that provides cover such as Nationwide flex plus. The account costs £13 a month and there are other benefits such as breakdown cover. You certainly get your money’s worth I think. They charge £65 for an over 70s upgrade but in May I understand this charge stops when Aviva take over.
Otherwise ive heard that staysure are good for over 70s cover.

The Lloyds bank account travel insurance benefit is cancelled when you reach 80.

From what I can see, there’s a charge for over 70s, I guess it’s tailored to personal circumstances.
They currently charge £65 but that covers everyOne on the policy. In May Aviva will become the policy providers and it looks like they are abolishing this charge altogether. I couldn’t find any mention of an upper age limit. There may be additional charges if you have anyspecific illness but that would apply to any policy. If you wanted to go down this route it’s probably best to wait until May then check it out in a local branch if there is one.

Thanks for that, I’ll have a look

We are with Nationwide and travel insured by them. We have banked with Nationwide for many years.
We've had it for a number of years and made no claims yet.
Nationwide use UK Travel and this years policy price was £60.43.
That covers both MrsDP and I.
We have been with them for a number of years and, so far, haven't made a claim.
I don'think you will get that rate.
I am 88 y.o. (89 in July) and MrsDP is 80 in September.
