Trump (part 3776 A)

Committee recommends four charges to the Justice Department - including conspiracy to defraud the USA and insurrection.

This could get messy.
Presumption of innocence and all that, but it looked like a call to insurrection from what I saw

His followers aren't going to see this as a judicial process are they. They are going to see him as a victim and a martyr.

Guns, lots of guns.

His followers are moving more and more to De Santis.

I’m not an expert on US law, but sure I read somewhere that the recommendation of charges doesn’t mean they’ll be acted on, more likely they won’t.
What’s your opinions?
(I hope they throw the book at him - I’ve still got my QAnon mate telling me it’s all fake news and that Trump will get his presidency back! 😂😂)

This explains the US presidential process. It’s like having a party leadership contest just before a GE.

The Republican Party is going off Trump after the mid terms and it shouldn’t be assumed he’ll be nominated.

I’m not sure the law has much to do with it. It’s really about politics.

In the Republican primaries (so the election to decide which Republican can put himself forward to be elected as President) there’s only Trump and DeSantis likely to be in the running. The winner will go up against the Democrat nominee - probably Biden but who knows.

This “prosecution” of this case probably won’t go anywhere. But De Santis has to say whether or not he supports it. Does it strengthen his position with Republican voters in the primaries against Trump if he supports Trump, and agrees it’s fake news and a witch-hunt? Or will it play better with the Republican Party if he comes out against Trump? As a traitor to the constitution?

I suspect De Santis will swerve the question as far as he can to avoid upsetting the core Trump supporters. But more and more of them are moving not DS - Trumpism without Trump. So he needs to tread carefully so as to not upset that drift.

Cheers, that makes sense of what I’ve read!

It's a recommendation but the committee's 'proof' doesn't necessarily match DOJ evidence. I suspect there isn't enough to criminally charge him with sedition/ insurrection. He's more likely to be in the shit over the documents he had at his house in Florida.

Regardless of what's in those documents, he didn't have the right to have them, so I agree that's what they'll do him for. Bit like Capone and the IRS
