Twelve Months Ago...

I’m loving where we are as a club. An owner who is one of us. Fan base are loud and make us proud. Critch isn’t perfect, but he’s learning. You’ve gotta love that he has helped us to be where we are. Injury-ravaged, Covid still affecting the games, first season back in the championship yet still, we are mid table.

We had 43 points last season after 27 games and 50 points after 32games. Can we get close to that in the next 5 games? Tall order and highly unlikely, but we are comfortably mid table and if we could get to 45 points after 32 games we shouldn't be discounted from at least trying to get around sixth place.

If we went on the same run that we did after the Ipswich game we'd be up there, but they don't happen very often.

No, and we aren't scoring enough goals or dominating games like we did last season. A nice top 10 finish would be excellent for this season and we can really build on things then. I can see quite a few changes player wise next season.

On the radio, they were saying just how well Forest and Middlesbrough were doing and how they could get automatic. We're four points behind Forest having played the same amount of games. Playoff push. It's on.
It's certainly a chance whereas relegation isn't even in the equation, so they have nothing to lose and go for it. It may depend on the transfer window though.

A flirtation with the playoffs would be ace. Unlikely perhaps, but why not? We are Blackpool FC, the play off magicians 🏝️ 🤸‍♂️👍
We never had a relaxing end to a season but...

It wouldn't be so bad if we did.

A chance to bed in new players and work on our style with nonpressure innthe championship could be good for the team.

But obviously we want to keep winning and see what happens.

Thank you for this thread of positivity and uplift Lytham. There are still one or two posters on this board who seem fairly suicidal after a hard won scrappy 3 pointer with a few mislaid passes.
After the start of the season I'm both delighted, surprised and quietly optimistic about the season so far, the rest of this season and, of course, whatever next season brings. Well done you for staying positive

Suicidal? Get a grip.

I think given the difficulties we have faced with injuries, to be where we are is an incredible achievement. Our results against the top teams in the league indicate that we have nothing to fear. We have huge momentum and togetherness both on and off the field. That's something very few other clubs have and the impact of this shouldn't be underestimated. Who knows, 2022 could be another vintage one for Blackpool. We have started it well, with two league wins out of two without conceding a goal. And if we win our next one then we could well be outsiders for a play-off place....

We rarely see them after a win, but they are there JJ👀🤦‍♂️
Presume he was referring to my post with some areas to improve... as I mentioned misplaced passes.

For me doesn't matter if we win or lose i call out the performance as it is.

Whereas some if we lost with that performance are going mad, but win and its all OK.

Have been looking at the table and almost can't believe the teams we're above , been luxuriating in the huge gap between us and the relegation places, remembering every single "prediction table" that had us bottom, the Guardians one line "Blackpool do not look equipped to compete at championship level" season review. It's a much needed good feeling.

What they forget is that we had a terrible start to last season and had to play catch up and in the end missed out on auto by a midges dick. We were the best side in league 1 and it is no surprise we are way above Hull and Posh. We are only going one way and we are going to do it properly, may not be next season but the season after I wouldn't be surprised to see us as the Fulham of that season.

It's very comforting.

The same article had Cardiff and Hull as play off hopefuls and t'Rovers as relegation candidates.

Story of our lives, its only Blackpool, always underestimated.

We've got some good young talent, a great manager and great support.

We've got the potential to be so much better too. A bit more composure.

Like today for me was average performance beating a poor side on the day, but we still had to beat them.

If we were on it today could have been more comfortable, saying that they were missing some key players.

So were we but doesn't seem to affect us as much as we have an even squad quality.

A bit better on the ball and less sitting deep and today is more comfortable.

People didn't like my post earlier but think of it this way, we didn't play to our best we know we can and still won.

Were very light in midfield and for me missing a ball playing midfielder. But still won and Dougall and Connolly did ok.

👍

The Guardian used to be a decent paper but a lot of its sports coverage, particularly of the Champoinship and below, is the laziest imaginable. Anyway, they can fuck right off because we are very clearly "equipped to compete at Championship level". Who'd have thunk it? 🏝️ 😂 🔥 👍

When results aren’t coming and points aren’t coming the pressure starts to build. Despite all the disruption the results have come again and the pressure is easing about getting dragged into a scrap with the poor teams like Preston. Hopefully we can do a bit of that expressing ourselves that Critch used to be very keen on a bit more freely and who knows? We’re safe so let’s have a real go at it now.

Got to worth a cheeky tenner on us? Currently at 8 for the win.
Bit too cheeky for me I think. We squoze a narrow win at home to a depleted Millwall side yesterday, without playing very well. I'd like to think we won't concede 6 next week but a win seems a long shot. I'd kiss the tenner before you hand it over.

Might get involved Lytham, eight of us stuck a tenner on when we played Sheffield united away, paid 400 quid and covered a good portion of the beer consumed that day 👍

But what you missed out of that sentence is we squeezed a narrow win at home to a depleted Millwall side with a depleted Blackpool side. That’s what made it so special.

We will be depleted next week too and I was talking about next week.

And we weren't depleted?

That early season desperate home defeat to Cardiff suggested we'd be in real trouble - and we're not.
Survival is success this season - near to the play off zone would be a massive achievement ;)

I didn't think it did, we out played them but got a bit of a lesson in being clinical, better balls in and the strength of some teams physically.

But we were playing great football and were all over them just didn't score seeing half.
