Two points dropped or a point gained?

I put up a similar post after the Crewe game. In terms of the key points I've simply replaced the word Crewe, for Wimbledon. In short, we have learnt absolutely nothing since then. I guess the Wimbledon manager simply watched that game and played the same tactical game as Crewe...

Going into this I'd have said 2 points dropped if we didn't win but having watched the whole 90 minutes I would say a point gained.
A few thoughts...
* Wimbledon won the tactical battle for most of the 90 minutes, and in particular were well on top of us in the first 30 and the last 30. Critch is still learning in this respect. Teams have worked out that if you overload the midfield against us it causes us problems
* Wimbledon's subs worked, ours didn't - when Simms went off it went t*its up for us (why not take Jerry off and leave the target man who can run in behind as our outlet ball?)
* CJ was lacking in match sharpness
* Maxwell - I'm not a fan of his and he is costing us points (he couldn't do anything about the shot as he had no chance, but there may not have been a shot if he hadn't booted the ball straight into touch with seconds left on the clock)
* Taking off our biased hats, Wimbledon were well worthy of a point

Evening.

2 dropped.

Re Maxwell, he’s been one of our best performers (in my view) this season, but he was poor today at times with his decision making and kicking.

2 points dropped. No point winning away at Pompey and Charlton if you can’t see out 3 points at home to afc wi
And Crewe
Crewe have been a solid side all season who have exceeded expectations. We could’ve won but credit where credit is due they played well. We have the quality to sweep aside Wimbledon though

2 points dropped due to negative tactics. We have better players than Wimbledon but the substitutions killed us off. I suppose we were lucky to get a point in the end.

And yet a side who some said had shot their bolt (Lincoln) ripped em a new one this afternoon.

I'm not a Critchley basher but some decisions (or the lack of them) do leave me baffled. He is clearly learning on the job but as 62 said above, the concern is that he isn't leaning. Today, I would question the following...

* Changing the defence for a far more negative set up by dropping Garbutt (who set up our last goal and gives us a threat from both corners and freekicks) and dropping Gabriel who has been one of our outstanding performers of late, for two outright defenders against a team fourth from bottom?
* Playing CJ from the start when he clearly isn't match fit or sharp as his performance against Crewe off the bench clearly showed us?
* Bringing off Simms instead of Yates and going to one up front. If you are going to change to this formation Yates is clearly not the answer (as the games against Ipswich and Crewe told us) and I'm not sure he touched the ball after Simms going off?
* Continuing to play Kai Kai in midfield. It is clear he is one of those players who has no appetite for defending and it leaves us wide open down our left side. And guess which side the goal came from? If Kai Kai is going to come on it should have been in the Embleton role (but off Simms and not Yates)
* Slow out of the blocks yet again! This has been a feature of a lot of our games this season. We need to be on it from the very start. Why does it keep happening. Is it down to not getting the players up for it?
* In game management - football is not just about team selection, tactical formation is arguably more important. This is where I think Critchley has a lot to learn. Many times we have appeared to be playing sh*t from the start, but this could simply be that the opposition have done their homework and got the right formation to play against us. We did get it right against Charlton and we looked class. But we got it wrong against Ipswich, Crewe and Wimbledon and we looked inept at times. Critchley needs to be much more reactive in games and be prepared to change things around when it clearly isn't working. I'm not sure what our formation was once Simms went off and for most of the games we were playing like a bunch of headless chickens...

Points dropped. Poor tactics. Got control of the game then instantly withdrew players in a plethora of weird subs.
