We live in a time where intelligent people are being silenced so as not to offend stupid people, is a quote I saw this morning on Facebook. Some would agree some would not.

I had a post removed by the guardians of good taste, and I say that lightly, a week or so ago due to the content including some truthful comments about those who shall not be named, the M*****s, and it seems that you cannot say anything about them or their religion for fear of being classed as racist or worse.

With this being, basically, a football site, I expect to experience a level playing field, be refereed in the correct way and not have one rule for some and one rule for others. It would seem though that whoever decides what can and cannot be said have some strange ideas of what is offensive and what is not.

It would appear that it is alright to blaspheme, take the name of the Lord in vein, and use images of him for political knock abouts yet at the same time not be able to mention A**a or anything to do with that religion. Level playing field my Donkey , I would have said a**e but it would no doubt be unacceptable.

Whether people like it, or not, this is still a Christian Country in which we tolerate other peoples cultures and religious practices, but it seems that the guardians of good taste on this board feel that Christians must tolerate whatever is said or done whilst others can do and say whatever they like and not reciprocate in the so called mutual understanding.

For those who wonder what I am on about the answer is on the Keir Starmer confident in Rayner thread posted at 6.49 on Saturday.

As I've written before, if you have something worth saying but there is a chance that you will fall foul of the Mods, try saying it in a non-confrontational way - being careful with your wording. I suspect I would be unlikely to agree with it but I don't like censorship unless it is insulting, threatening or grossly prurient.

Matesrates - What I would expect from you.

Sooty - There is obviously something that created and is still creating the universe, we have theories but we don't know what. So look at it like this , You have a very long piece of string, at one end is the lowest form of creation, perhaps a germ of some sort or a one celled animal/vegetable. Humans are part way up but near the bottom. At the other end is the creator of the universe, we don't know what, but it is what we call God. It is humans who gave the creator, whatever it may be, a human form so that we minions could understand it. Whether a person believes in and then worships that end of the string is entirely up to them.

1966 - I don't know whether you know me or not, but I am not particularly confrontational, more hail fellow well met, but will stand my ground when required, so if I agreed with you we would both be wrong!

I think you have a point to some degree Wilf.
Watched Jimmy Carr’s latest offering last night, I have no idea how be still gets away with the things he says, but he’s a brave guy in this world of cancel culture wokery. He made an interesting joke/observation regarding how people view Christians in our multi-diverse society.

For clarity, I assume you are talking about my Tory Jesus meme (allowing the sick to rise and return to work)?

So my view is that religion is faith in something you are told. We cannot prove if Islam is more accurate than Judaism or Buddhism or Christianity or even the belief that Terry Pratchett called it correct. It’s purely your own belief. No point trying to defend it or prove it to others as absolutely no proof exists barring written accounts of people who have their own views from close to that time.

If faith in the stories works for your life then cherish it - however it is faith not proof. Zealous defence of a story doesn’t make sense to me?

I will though agree that there needs to be a level playing field. If you wish to post a meme of Allah then so be it. I guess the question is what level of humour is acceptable and what is not? I would say a meme about child abuse and Mohammed wouldn’t be acceptable (despite the alleged age of his wife) and a meme about David kicking Goliath in the balls would be? Or Buddah not resisting an Armenian kebab.

Sorry if it upset you Curryman however I’m sure you can rise above the banter if you have a strong faith?

Why should there be a “something”? People have a hard time in understanding concepts of physics such as...

In the beginning, before the singularity that caused the Big Bang which created the Universe there was... nothing at all.
Due to that event, the universe is expanding at the speed of light and is effectively infinite. If there can be considered to be an “end” to the universe, beyond that there is... nothing at all.

You might call physics (and science in general) another form of “religion” but a lot of the supporting dogma is totally provable, it’s just the big question that isn’t. Since that’s completely unprovable to people, they invent an all-powerful entity, the creator, in order to allow their minds to cope with such concepts. With the ulterior aim of controlling people and their behaviour to fit whichever power structure exists in whatever society of any time.
