Veiled racism

Apparently I am a veiled racist as the post on illegal immigrants has been locked due to complaints.
Too many morons on the political side of the forum

I am not sure you are supposed to call anybody a moron but it appears that some posters who post on the political side of the forum are unable to debate and discuss immigration policy without making ridiculous accusations of racism against other posters.

Perhaps it's an insignificant issue ?

Funny, just had a look back at that thread and it seems it went down hill after CAT entered the fray.
So I point out that it is not illegal to seek asylum in the UK, and all human beings deserve to be treated with humanity and respect.
And it is my fault? Weird!

I didn’t say it was your fault did I. I said the thread went south as soon as you got involved. Work it out.

Minor when you’re desperate for your family and life
Proper channels to go through for political asylum, no one forces anyone to cross the channel illegally in a rubber dinghy putting your family often with small children/babies at risk.
Sad I know but they know what they are doing and the risks involved.

Desperate people from third world countries going through the proper channels, difficult for a lot of dinghy risking parents and children

Indeed but if people are prepared to pay thousands of pounds for a ride on a death Dinghy it says a lot about them and what regards they hold their children in.
France is a safe heaven so why risk everything on the last leg crossing a dangerous sea? Why not just stay there?

But why risk it with kids in a dinghy, why not stop in the 1st safe country? Instead of travelling another thousand or so miles?

Would it be because this country has become a soft touch?
That's the Tories for you. Soft on law and order. Over a decade in charge.

Still blaming Labour though.

Section 31 of the 1999 Immigration and Asylum Act.
You are wrong.
So why do the authorities take these people into a detention then once they capture them? If it’s not illegal why don’t we just turn them loose?
Fact is if you arrive in this country without a passport/ID you will be detained and that is a fact so word it how you like to suit your agenda.

As I’ve said previously I’ve nothing at all against people wanting to claim political asylum so long as it goes through the proper channels that’s why we and every other country have rules/regulations regarding immigration rather than just make it a free for all.

And as I’ve said previously as well no one forces these people to cross the channel in a rubber dinghy is France such a demonic country to risk everything for?

Why not indeed? However detaining asylum seekers is not illegal while their claims are processed.
Just as claiming asylum without a passport is not illegal. Nor is seeking asylum in a particular country of choice, regardless of whether other countries have been passed through to get here.

You'd be forgiven for thinking that the UK accepts/ receives more illegal immigrants/ refugees/ asylum seekers than any other country in Europe after reading this thread.

This whole thread is a new low for this board, it's like bigot corner.

No, not at all Lytham.

A bigot is somebody who is intolerant of the views of others so if you are of the opinion that the board has hit a new low because a number of posters may be expressing non abhorrent views which may differ to those of your own then that would make you the bigot.

I can't say I am as passionate as others on this topic but surely immigration is the sort of topic that you would expect to be discussed and debated on this board, especially given a political sub board has now been introduced.

If any posters were to express abhorrent views on any matters I think they should be dealt with appropriately and I'm sure most of the posters would agree with that but surely this board is all about discussion and debate and posters should be encouraged to discuss and debate matters such as this ?

Nope, it's not just intolerance of opinions, it's intolerance of any differences, cultural, ethnicity etc.....

Free speech doesn't allow for bigotry I'm afraid and the thread in question was full of irrational hatred, especially from some new usernames.

That's fair enough what you say, I could have missed something but the main debate just appeared to be around a difference of opinion on immigration and how the UK deals with asylum seekers.

Couldn't agree more with you re free speech not allowing for bigotry and while I have no reason to doubt what you say re new usernames, I wouldn't know enough to comment on that.

you have threatened to punch people in the face for having a different opinion to you for avoidance of doubt these people should not in my opinion be in this country as they are here illegally the fact that they don’t like the accommodation they have been provided with is just another insult

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed a change in tone on here recently?

This forum is as tense and volatile as a Clash concert in the late 70`s...

I think some have been empowered by the rise of Trump, Brexit, a right wing government here etc etc...

A question that always seems to remain unanswered, I wonder why?

This question has been discussed before and answers given.

Hope this helps

The documentary from the Jungle asked people that question there and the top 3 reasons are:

1) they speak some English but not French so for 16 more miles in a boat have a much better chance of making a decent future life,

2) They already have family and friends in the UK so a support network awaiting them,

3) This final leg of their journey isn't usually the most dangerous bit. It's seen as easy compared to the first leg of their journey when they make an illegal escape over a dangerous border from their worn torn land.
