Wand of a left foot

I am not convinced that Turton or Husband are better defenders, heart in my mouth everytime Husband closes down a forward. Expect him to foul everytime. Turton works hard but again is not brilliant and his distribution is poor. With Ballard and the viking securing the 18 yard box would be happy with G &G giving us the width. The system could be better though with a 6 foot plus keeper who commands the box and comes for crosses.

I think we need to see how G and G handle the defensive side against League One opposition. Turton has done ok in my opinion, gets overly criticised.

If we want to progress then Turton and Husband aren't good enough. I've said it all season.
But for me that is the same as saying, if Liverpool want to win the league, they need better fullbacks than a 34 year old James Milner; They have better fullbacks than 34 year old James Milner, but Milner is still a vital cog. Turton especially for me (but also Husband), is that component for us. He isn't the best player we have, but is an unarguably reliable L1 squad player which good teams need too (I would argue :)).

We can't afford to takes his crossing/passing/dead ball prowess out of the team, added another dimension to our team on saturday.

Tis a squad game and we can support all the players as they flit in and out of the team.

Not sure what that means. There's a doubt about G & G's defensive capabilities against better opposition, Ipswich being a case in point. Turton has mostly done ok. Husband has had some spectacular cock ups but defends reasonably well a lot of the time. Playing the likes of Eastbourne and Harrogate means we can play attacking full backs who don't really do defending. Left back is a bit of a problem though - we brought in Mitchell and Garbutt but neither can do the defensive side, it seems. It's a tough call. Do you want Garbutt playing at the back worrying about his positional play and getting a challenge in etc, or on the front foot picking out strikers with his left foot?
how have we come to the conclusion Garbutt cannot defend?

I suppose I'm saying that our best XI doesn't contain either Husband or Turton. Gabriel and Garbutt give us far more options going forward and are quick enough to do a job defensively. Added to which we now have centre halves doing a centre half's job.

Gabriel was thrown to the wolves against a decent side with Turton playing CH. Not fair on either of them.

It's not a conclusion, we need to see more as I said, but Ipswich fans and their manager have said he wasn't great at left back, struggled defensively, and he backed that up when he played against Ipswich. But he may prove them all wrong.

Sure, and I have to say, from what I've seen so far, I do completely agree with that assessment. Need to see Garbutt a few more times, but we've been crying out for better dead ball delivery I think.

No coincidence that it was Garbutt that struck the shot the goalie couldn’t hold, golf club of a left foot, bit of top
Spin on that

Think early season we had no stability at CB, too many unforced errors & having two predominantly attacking full backs highlighted our frailties. Any two (or possibly three) from Ballard, Marv & Grets now should enable us to play Gabriel & Garbutt plus Dougal offers a decent shield to the CB's. Impressed by his positional play when the opposition break. Usually does enough to stop the forward ball & buys our full backs a bit of time to get back.
I know it’s late in the season but I could see the “experiment” of Marv in a back three. Maybe next season, eh?

Husband and Turton are solid squad players, but we already have better options, imo.
But we do need squad players to get the best out of the team. Turton has rarely put a foot wrong all season, not the best but reliable and worthy of a place in the squad. Maybe less so for Husband but I do trust Critchley's judgement and every time it is, a must not lose match he plumps for Turts.
