Warped thing about the transfer market

If I was a Carlisle fan I'd be feeling very nervous about our approach for Moxon, which I reckon will happen.
However, it does feel wrong that only 12 days before a new season a player should be vulnerable to lose one of their best players and have little time to replace them.
Let's face it we've been slapped in the face by this enough time over the years and I actually think the transfer window should be from the end of the season to mid-July just to give teams a chance to hang on to their best players but also to replace them. Then loans can be used to top up squads throughout August.

The problem is the further down the leagues you go the easier it is to pick off your prized assets because they are ambitious but also the clubs need the money. Ironically if Carlisle hadn't been promoted I reckon this deal would have already been done.
Agree with the o/p's sentiment though and pleased we got the Jerry business done when we did.

I wonder how much Television and the media have a say in this?
It’s in their interest to keep the transfer story going for as long as possible to keep people hooked.

A deadline is a deadline, it makes no difference when it is. If it's July 15 and you lose a player July 14 then you still have little time. Clubs will simply adjust to the new date and the problem is still there.

Perhaps lower league teams should be given a transfer window extension, from Aug 31 to Sept 7, IF they lose a player registered in the squad the previous season from say Aug 24 AND if they have registered an interest in a player with the EFL prior to say Aug 30. The selling Club could veto this interest if it's unwelcome.
