WBA a cynical / dirty side ? And terrible referee .

WBA were cynical/ dirty to my eyes. By half-time , Keshi Anderson had been kicked or hacked down 6-7 times , with no actiion taken by the referee. The referee clearly favoured the " forrmer Premier side " .

Well you certainly couldn't call him a homer at least 😁
Fortunately I don't think he had much to do in terms of difficult decisions (penalty appeals etc), but I agree he favoured West Brom both in open play and awarding set pieces. In the first half he took an age to award them a corner when it was clearly our goal kick. They also got away with a few niggly fouls, particularly the strikes to Wintle's (I think) face which put him on the floor.

He was far from the worst ref I've seen though, but in allowing the game to flow by letting them get away with the niggly infringements, it put more pressure on us when we were already under the cosh, so the decisions made more of a difference

Watching on TV I thought the ref was OK - but red button doesn't show replays
A few bad decisions for throw ins and a corner but linesman need to help out with these
And Keshi booked for diving - I would like to see it again

They weren't the most I've seen. Millwall were bad. Stoke too.

Think there should have been a yellow for Dale being struck in the face. I thought the referee was pretty good. Ormerod and Chissy, yet again, miles off the pace on commentary. Some of the decisions they said he got wrong, he got clearly right.

Thought the ref was more in our favour than theirs. He gave a foul on Kenny in our box late on when I thought there were a couple of fouls that could have been given to WBA just before. Maybe it was an Aussie thing!!

I can’t have an opinion on Keshi diving as it was too far away, but in fairness he had already had a word with him for the same thing in the first half.

Actually probably one of the better ones we have had this season. Not that the bar is set particularly high.

I didn't think the ref or officials had a bad game, maybe my expectations have been lowered by the dross we had against QPR and Millwall. As for West Brom, I don't think they were overly dirty either, they are a high energy team who pressed us better than any team I've seen so far.

Think we need to get out of this terrible ref mentality, yes we have had a few bad ones this season but thought yesterday’s was generally ok. Rightly in my opinion let the game flow and was right to pick up on a bit of simulation from us
I don't disagree that he let the game flow but there was no reason on a couple of occasions that he couldn't have gone back to the player and booked them at the next break in play.

At once stage, one of their players tried to hack down Dougall and was furious with the ref because he allowed play to continue 😄

The shithousery is a lot more prevelant than in League One or last time we're in this league, it seems that every team is at it, apart from PKE, they just seemed depressed.

Stop blaming the ref!
He had a decent game and usually things level out over a season.
Yes he missed a few shirt pulls etc butI am sure Pool are no angels neither.

i agree mate it’s tedious now. i thought last nights ref was fair on the whole - we did have a run of bad ones but you hope it evens out over the course of a season or as near as. After all we weren’t jumping on the refs back when swansea had a stonewall penalty waved away. Great game last night with two very good sides playing high tempo football.

t'was Gabriel got away with a clear couple of shirt pulls very early in the game which stopped their player going thru which the ref missed. But that doesn't count because it was our player doing it..

Id expected them to be a more direct really physical side, but they were a bit more subtle. decent going forwards particularly down the wings, Gabriel and James both handled it very well. Jordan was left a bit exposed at times but i think that is the risk with playing bowler.

On the ref I'd agree with the OP that he let a lot go against Keshi, and pulled up Madine a lot for 50/50s with their CH's, so madine couldnt really impose his physical presence, and he pulled up Marv and Wintle a lot for defensive 50/50's. I personally think that their defenders felt emboldened by the refs leniency to them, and keshis booking should have been a second yellow for their guy, it was the 7th or 8th time that keshi had gone around him and been pulled down and the ref had let all but i think two of them go, booking the defender for one of them. i dont think the challenges were malicious, it was just Keshi had that bit of pace and smarts over the defender, who was an absolute f***ing monster, there was a clip with him and Keshi together and Keshi's head barely reached the defenders shoulders.

Heres an illustration as well, when Dale came on he got whacked in the face twice, i dont think necesarily maliciously but in the past we have seen players sent off for that. the second incident was without doubt (in my mind) a deliberate arm thrown to Dale's body to push him off the ball but it missed his body and hit his face because Dale was quicker.

I think the ref tried to let the game flow and he wasnt the worst by some way this season, but he was still shit.

My take is that west brom are a fairly cynical side, being a crap PL side (and they really were shisser last year) is that they have to some extents mastered the dark arts in pursuit of PL survival, and the new manager doesnt really have the personnel (or maybe hasnt had the time) to turn them into a proper footballing side. I have to say they looked pretty good last night but i have a sneaking suspicion that is about as good as west brom are or will be without a lot of changes. Ill be surprised if they are top six at the end of the season, unless they bring in a lot of new faces in January.

All in all I thought the ref was ok last night.
One of the few things I could have pulled him up for was booking Keshi for diving when there was at least three instances of WBA players throwing themselves down looking for the foul.
Oh and the one where Dale got smacked right in the dish and nothing came of it!!

I expect that prediction to be better than your Fulham one.;) I still expect them to be top six though.

A couple of 'questionable' decisions by the Ref, but it didn't cost us the game.
A hard game to referee I thought, but he didn't do a bad job.
We'll have much worse before this season is over.
I was happy with draw against possibly the best team we've played this season so far.

Disagree Dave, that first 45 minutes away at the vitality stadium against Bournemouth and the match at Bloomfield Rd against Fulham showed me that WBA are probably the worst of the three relegated teams from the prem.

I thought the ref let the game flow and it was better for it. Didn’t think they were a dirty side, powerful yes but not dirty. I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed a 0-0 as much as I did last night.
