I think Kompany has taken them up a level and the board have backed him. Contrast that with Crystal Palace who despite a good manager may well go down this season.

I'm not sure their spending is modest (yes compared to top Prem clubs obviously). I bet Kompany's salary is pretty steep to start with.

But you have to admire them. Doing it all the right way. Will take a relegation to build the following year and dominate the Championship then go up stronger.
