What’s going on at squires gate

Just installed sprinklers on the main training pitch , must of been 8 cabins being delivered this week new footing being put in in front of the offices or changing rooms . Seems as is putting a lot of money into squires gate which seems strange If we’re moving soon , not complaining but there seems to be loss going on at squires gate . Tractors in and out all day

The new training ground is not going to happen over night so the players will still need something up to standard to use for the next 12months.

How long do we reckon the building work will take and when is it starting at the new place?

This is a terrific and expensive commitment from SS; as TC says above this will help NC to sell the club to potential new players.
Not all modern day players like ruffing it, unlike Ollies band of legionnaires ;)
100% agree - if this had been the O's they would have continued to let it fall in to disrepair and there is no doubt a training ground can have sway. I remember a few years ago being told about two players who didn't join when we were in the Prem because of the 'joke' facilities.

They pervious owners went being tight, they had cold showers to avoid Legionnaires.

Not sure about the sprinklers, but the point of bringing in modular buildings is that they can be reused, either at the new training ground or elsewhere.

Maybe though it's a good way of filtering out the players who are too invested in the luxury lifestyle. What we got was people who just wanted to play football. For the greatest manager we've ever had.

I'm not up for pampering footballers any more than they already are. Sell the club to players who want to stay grounded.

Remember just how happy DJ looked in that wheelie bin. He's the type we want at our club. 👍

Thanks Karl

As I explained in the massive training ground thread. They’re putting a new irrigation system in for drainage and expanding the facilities with new cabins.

Is there not some pressure to get the Revoe development sorted sooner than 6 years? That might mean we push on with it? 3 to 4 years perhaps?

That's for the area around the east not the east stand.. looking at the plans they have probably over 100 houses to be demolished, it will take years if not more than 6.. the area that will be developed will be the remaining building land that's derelict behind the North stand in the Foxhall village.

I'm sure you're right, these things take time. Just might help that it's part of a rejuvenation scheme. The East development might hold up other parts of that maybe?

Tractors coming and going as they are renovating pitches just like the stadium. The new irrigation system will save the groundsmen hours each day instead of moving the current above ground ones. More time to spend at BR once set up is done in the morning at SG.

Don't really know to be honest, just looking at the plans Henry Street will be completely demolished, and all the houses on central drive backing on to Henry Street demolished, they are all lived in.. I have no idea how quickly or not it will take to actually purchases the houses and the ones that won't sell? What then?

Definitely obstacles to be overcome.

Gut feeling is it is 3 and 1/2 years away yet.
They've built Olympic stadiums in in less time than that 😉
SS will want it built in the quickest possible time and for many reasons, this is a great contract for a big company.
He'll commit the contractors to a time bound completion date, with severe penalty clauses for late delivery.

Excellent in theory. In practice it incentivises shoddy work.

Quality
Cost
Speed

You can't achieve all three at the same time. You always have to sacrifice one. If this is intended to be a long-term legacy for the club, speed is the one to sacrifice.

You can set the sprinkler system off by mobile phone cant you?.

Out of interest, why have we never seen pictures of the upgraded facilities at Squires Gate?

I think it’s a case of the club not being massively proud of the facilities currently available (even though they are greatly improved on what was previously there) so don’t exactly want to go shouting about it. The club saying ‘hey, look at these top notch portacabins’ may well be well received by our fans but in the wider football community probably not.

Bring in the Bangladeshi workforce that built the Qatar World Cup venues. Plus they work for £2 a month.

For comparison, QPR acquired their new site (27acres in Heston, Middlesex) at the end of December 2020. Planning permission was granted last September. The following month. October, work started. Projected completion 9 months i.e. July this year.
So the total from exchange of contracts on the land (which we have) to completion of the facility, will be one year and seven months. Not too shabby, and that's in London with undersoil heating and all the other fancy pants southern nonsense.

I think you missed a 'not' in your 1st sentence. 😉
