What has gone wrong with the defence?

Reading Scrafton's tweets, he seemed to be scathing about the defence to the point where at one point he said "after some of the most horrific defending I've seen from Blackpool" - so what has gone wrong? Thorniley came with a decent reputation, Turton has always been pretty solid and Heneghan is probably one of our most consistent performers and with Spearing tracking back along with Bola and Feeney's support, you'd have thought we'd be better than we are.

Theories and solutions to our defensive woes?

I’d say Larry was zonal marking if it wasn’t for the fact all the players appear to be inside the same 5 yard box!

There’s a lack of support on the left which drags the centre half’s out of position. For all of Spearing’s use, he’s not very mobile, so doesn’t really shield the centre halves, like Ndidi/Kante moving laterally, but more acts like a pivot or anchor staying pretty static. However, the positioning of Spearing and the space between him and back four needs attention, he’s too close at times.
Grayson needs to decide what he wants to do, and play people who can do it as pressing is in fashion at the moment, but he still seems to favour the static blocks, not dissimilar to what Mourinho was doing at United. It can look very outdated when not done properly.
Edit: you can see what I mean by comparing our average positions to theirs on whoscored, us in blue, especially the back 4s.
