What I hope is happening:

I hope the club is advertising far and wide, making in known there is a very attractive job available for the right ambitious coach/manager.

Then, we do a proper process including a 360 degree assessment of everything. Senior player involved in appraising coaching strategy for example - it would happen like that in any other profession. Questions about media duties, due diligence done on who and how he will fill coaching/support roles, proper discussions about different scenarios, how to integrate youth, reserve and first teams and on and on.

Finally, we pick the man on merit. We give him a 2 year deal and we back him. Whoever he is.

Some of the best managers in the game have little or no record until they become managers. Jose is an ex translater who barely played. Wenger barely played. Alex Ferguson did play at high level but started managing at East Stirling which is as tinpot as you can get. There's plenty more.

We need to turn every stone to find the right man and I sincerely hope the club isn't 'targetting' whoever is out of work or who 'feels like they might do a job', but is instead going to see who applies and go in to the process with an open mind and looking for something special.

I hope they see through the candidates who have charisma alone (the sort of Owen Coyle type charm that can seem like insight but isn't) and see who has a real football brain and vision. I fancy us having a bit of an ethos. I envy clubs with ethos.

I'm sure they will do something like this, I can't imagine Sadler appoints for his other businesses on a whim and a hunch and tbh, I don't even know why the bookies open at this point because it's literally just a guessing game. Which I suppose is the essence of betting tbf.

Failing that, get Brett and Hillsy to sit in for a bit just so we can sing about Brett. Till Evo is oven ready.

I don't know much about Simon Sadler other than he's a very successful business man. I would be extremely surprised therefore if Sadler didn't have a pretty good idea before he showed Larry the door who he wanted to replace him AND had already made enquiries about that person's availability.

That's not exactly how it works in business though. You look at the market and until there's an actual vacancy you don't know who is available.

He might think (or Mansford) might think 'Ok, manager X might be good' but unless you look at the entire field (which is global potentially and includes people who might be in work as assistants or coaches) how do you know that any given manager is the best choice.

Put it this way, in my job, we'd never hire a senior manager without a thorough process and examining the entire field. It might be the job ultimately goes to a known entity but only if they're the best candidate.

The process would involve multiple people and be subject to scrutiny and I really hope we are now the kind of club that works like that. I read a great article on (I think Dortmund or someone of that ilk) about how they realised that the only way to get better was to make better decisions and thus put in proper processes for signings, staff, etc.

That then becomes 'the way it's done' and they estimated they'd made the club X amount more successful and profitable simply by reviewing how they made choices.

He'd just bought his hometown club, he appointed one of his heroes. Just a shame it didn't work. We move on!

Tbf to Sadler my PNE acquaintances all said 'you're going up' when we got Larry. Hindsight and all that.

And that is exactly why supporters of PNE are called nobbers.

A lot are still saying it now. You'll regret it he would have got you up eventually.

If they had just witnessed the same football and results I'm sure they'd all be saying yeah stick with him.... 🙄

But we already know they are hypocrites as proved in the attendance mocking threads when they had similar themselves.

I think a lot of has probably been going on in the background prior to him being given the axe. I take TD53's point in that its not how it works in business but football isn't like other businesses. Im sure they have a shortlist already and now he's gone they may add a couple more to it. Whichever way it happens though whether its quick or drawn out, I have faith in SS getting it right and just hope this time round we go for an attacking manager who wants to entertain.

I'm sure Simon S will be doing a thorough job in recruiting the new Manager. It will be second nature to him from his work as a hedge fund manager to be thorough with his research and examine all the odds.
I know he got it wrong with Larry but you can't argue with the reason he gave him the job which was of course his record of getting teams promoted from League 1.
However this is a new world for SS to be doing business in but I'm absolutely certain he will have learned alot since he took over so I'm confident the next manager he appoints will be the right one and it probably won't be Evo.

Simon Sadler is a football fan who bought his home club, who knows jack shit about football, brought in a manager six months ago let the manager bring in 12 players in january then sacks the manager two weeks later, and will probably bring in someone else who was employed by the Oystons,

What a fantastic post. I also envy clubs with ethos. Hopefully we do everything necessary to get the right man for the job, even if that means waiting a few months. I wonder what went wrong with Grayson. Aside from the poor football on display, lack of a system/shape at times and seemingly poor man management I think something has gone on behind the scenes. Blaming players week in week out will lose you the dressing room eventually I guess but that stuff Tilt put on Instagram and lots of players being sold off leads me to believe there's more to it than just bad results.

Going back to the o/p I totally agree. I think Sadler has real ambition and based on his previous judgements etc, he is not one to rush stuff but also I think his ambition will surprise some with who he appoints.
