What if Britain gets clear of Covid-19 for 14 days?

There's always a danger of it flaring up again without contuining restrictions.

So, I think we should do what a number of island nations have done already. Completely close the borders for another 14 days, and then only allow essential people in if they go into mandatory controlled (not voluntary) isolation for another 14 days.

This should be rigorously enforced by using army, navy and airforce personnel to effectively blockade us from the rest of the world.

There'd be no exceptions whether they are politicians, footballers, celebrities or lorry drivers. It'd be very tough on the drug dealers, but they'd probably buy up a lot of drones and fly the stuff from the French coast.

Sorted!

I read yesterday that there are still loads of of flights coming in from the States and so don't expect this to end anytime soon whilst we're still allowing infected people in.

They should be put into 14 day quarantine the minute the planes land or we are never going to get rid of it. At least easy jet have grounded all their planes includes all commercial flights aswell. Other airlines need to ground theirs aswell.

I was thinking about this as we're about to get a thousand fly in from Peru. Will they be put into Arrowe Park like those first few from Wuhan.

Any arrival into Australia is immediately driven from the airport and quarantined for 14 days in a hotel - no questions asked.

That seems a long time ago doesn't it? I still don't get why everyone wasn't isolated for 14 days from the moment it started - I realise that would have lead to a massive nightmare for authorities where to house them etc, but surely better than what is happening today?

At long last the Government is going to do something about quarantining people coming into this country.

The airline industry is moaning, but they would, wouldn't they?

Just how many people in this country have been infected because of the Governments dithering over this.

Although not a Boris fan, I was initially impressed with the way he and his ministers were handling the crisis, but now looking back it's clear that they could have done a lot more - and a lot less spinning!

I think that eventually everyone will have to get inoculated against Covid-19

But, but Brexit was important so that we have control over our own borders wasn’t it? So why are they still wide open and why is the isolation rule regarding incoming visitors not being applied till June at that - they are still playing us and herd immunity is still the objective, how else do you explain all this indecision and late to the party “planning” - once all us proles have caught it and hopefully survived then all the rich and famous will come back from their hideaways and virus bunkers safe in the knowledge that they aren’t going to catch a nasty bug from the great unwashed!

They tried voluntary quarantine here and now it’s mandatory in a government facility.

I wonder why they changed and the penalties here are far more than a 1k fine????

Mandatory is how it should be!

Whether in a hotel or elsewhere it should be policed and tightly.

Yes i agree more should have been done to monitor inbound passenger air travel earlier and perhaps it can be in the future?
The amount of air travel the UK gets is the biggest in Europe so its not quite as simple as if it was the Isle Of Man.
Covid has been imported into the UK & since then exported from here,
They reckon the 1st case in Manaus an Amazon state in Brazil was a woman who flew in from London.

Its now down to every Country to try & take the best action for their circumstances.

That's political point scoring. None of us could have forecast you need to isolate people coming into the country..oh.

We seem a long way off having 14 days clear when we have 3500 testing positive every day. That said, at least testing is more rigorous and actually those 3500 positive tests can also include those with the mildest form of Covid where there are practically no symptoms.

Everyone seems to agree testing is crucial, and yet, apart from 2 days where they basically fiddled the figures, 9 days into May, we are still not testing the 100000 a day which was promised and is the minimum to find where problems lie, never mind Boris's 250 000 a day which will be the minimum necessary to support Track and Trace.

Re the O/P, probably sometime late 2021 if we get a vaccine, or end up with Herd Immunity after a lot more deaths of those we love.
