What went wrong 9 years ago?

Done to death on the other board but thought it would be a good ice breaker on here. So the article below is from 12th January 2011, the day we beat Liverpool 2-1 at Bloomfield Road. Blackpool 9th in the table and 7 points off the drop with a game, if not two games, in hand on most of the sides around and above them. Some were even saying maybe a cheeky last push for 5th place. I think most of us thought we'd be safe and I doubt few would think we'd only get another 11 points from the remaining 18 games.

5 defeats and a draw on the bounce followed but the 3-1 win against Spurs really encouraged me. Strangely I think it was the last minute equaliser at Blackburn when I started to question us and after that we only beat Bolton when it was all too little, too late.

It is now the stuff of folklore and legend and even though it's been done to death, I still like talking about it, so what went wrong after that 2-1 win to Liverpool?

January window, dropped points at Bolton and Blackburn, home defeats to West Ham and Wigan.

Done death as you say and too painful to go over again. The start of the Oystons feathering the nest the full extent of which is still being uncovered.

I think Athers has it with Gilks injury. Kingson was a very, very poor replacement and I know there was talk of Shay Given coming in but KO wouldn't cough up the money and there in a nutshell you have it. I think the Oyston's saw our start to the season, became very complacent we'd stay in the league (that result against Liverpool at that time probably affirmed their decision) and thought 'why should we spend any more money,
