What would change fans minds about Nuttall?

Just thinking about what could change fans thought on Nuttall or is it now a done deal and he'll never be a player that fans will embrace?

Of course, much is down to the player himself and his attitude and his work ethic (which I both think need a lot of work) but say he came on in a game on the hour mark and scored a hat-trick - would that be it? Are we so fickle as fans that actually we rate a player on the goals they score? For that matter is it just his lack of goals (and misses) that have turned many fans against him.

Personally still think we'll off-load him over summer and put the move down as a bad job,

A couple of goals would do him the world of good.

Unfortunately, we do have an element in our support who need a scapegoat, and they have always been there. Ormerod was not a fan's favourite when he first came to the club. Adrian Forbes and Neil Bishop both got pelters although anyone could see they were trying their hardest every time they played. In recent years one or two people have tried to re-write history about Evatt and Southern, amongst others. Eardley was seriously put forward as a candidate for worst right back in the Podcast's Worst XI. So a lad who is struggling for confidence and form is always going to get it in the neck, and will probably continue to get criticism from some regardless of what he does.

That was me and I stand (well, sit!) by it. Eardley would’ve been a great winger. The lad couldn’t defend and always backed off his man allowing crosses in. Don’t think I saw him make a single tackle in his time at Blackpool. Awful full back

well that is the nature of being a “fan”. Essentially we pay money to be entertained, Nuttall is not entertaining us at the minute, in fact he’s driving most of us bleeding mad. He drives us mad because we re also “supporters” we support the club and we re not enjoying seeing the clubs investment currently being a dud. I think what rubs salt in the wounds on that point is his attitude, he just looks completely disinterested.

Having said that being a supporter also means that we support all our players, good times and bad. I am disappointed with Nuttall at the moment, but if he did score a hat trick or even just a goal I’d cheer and celebrate it like I did with Charlie’s at Wembley or Ormerod’s against Spurs.

It’s all symbiotic of course his poor start has clearly knocked his confidence, the supports are generally dissatisfied with him which causes a further knock to him rinse and repeat. This is exacerbated by the fact he’s a young lad, who’s never really had any pressure applied to his career before.

He is really the only person that can start the upward spiral. He needs to play with a Bit of pride and confidence.
As has been said a loan spell would have been smart for the rest of the season. I think Grayson made an error there.

I know it was you Joe, I was being discreet! I disagree with you whole-heartedly about it, although I do take your point about him being far better going forward. You are too young to have seen the second coming of David Bardsley - now that WAS terrible.

I think social media is a curse, in this sort of situation. There was a time when the lad would have got criticised on a Saturday afternoon, and then it would have been forgotten for a week. Nowadays, everyone has an opinion and a keyboard, and the pressure never relents.

Totally fine fella. Football is all about opinions. I think the main thing is to not get on a players back during the game. Booing your own players is madness.

I think Nuttall is very poor but booing him when he comes on is pretty disgusting tbh. I don’t see anything wrong with constructive criticism online, as long as it’s not just “he’s shite!” At least give a reason

I must be fickle then. Nuttall was brought in as a striker and a striker's job is to score and create as many goals as they can. If a striker isn't scoring or creating goals I won't think he's very good at his job.

Totally agree with Athers, Eardley just couldn't/didn't tackle, great winger though and he scores a stunning free kick against Everton

Not fickle at all - exactly what I think and he has had opportunities to do that and just doesn't seem to have the instinct.

Feeney was woeful until this season when he started off like a train bombing down the right flank and whipping in great crosses.
Now he has a song about him!
Nuttall should have been given a loan chance elsewhere and come back ready next season. Hardie is suddenly our best striker now he's not here.

the only rewriting history about Southern is people thinking that he was a good footballer...

The obvious answer is a couple of goals. In honesty I would just start with work rate, if he ran his nuts off and put himself about some of our fans might be open to giving him more of a chance.

Not fickle at all. You are entitled to your opinion and for that matter I agree wholeheartedly.

I can remember when a certain player who came from the Barcodes was classed as lazy by some and he did tend to go missing in games. That aside he was a great player and is still celebrated but I can't remember when the transformation took place. Stand up Mr Alan Suddick.

I would also add that if we take him as a guide, there's plenty of time for Nuttall to make himself loved by one and all.

I think the problem with Nuttall is his body language, maybe he just needs that bit of confidence by getting a goal, in the meantime let's give him the support he needs after all he is a Blackpool player.

Totally agree with that Robbie, particularly your second line. I am the opposite, because he is getting pelters, I want him to do well even more to shut those critics up. I am convinced he will do it too and a couple of goals would do him the world of good, I always liked Eardley and Southern was ace, we could do with him now! As for Bardsley..... second time round!! 😱 🤬

I've finally got round to watching Nuttal's interview when he signed for us...Crikey he was not a happy bunny... He oozed enthusiasm didn't he...NOT.

And that’s mainly why he gets flack. Lack of goals can be forgiven, all strikers go through a barren spell. Lack of effort, enthusiasm or a bad/disinterested attitude, unforgivable.

Bardsley II not making the worst XI is the biggest travesty so far. McMahon wasn't great but was far better.

Harsh on Kingson as well.

Anyway to answer the OP, he needs to score goals, run faster than he can run, win 100% of his headers and tackles and work his knackers off. And that might not be enough for some of his detractors.

For me he needs to start putting the chances away. I've no problem with his work rate, he's putting it in. He's just visibly devoid of confidence.

Edit: Oh yeah he needs to develop a sparkling personality as well.

I’d like for him to act like he gives a sh1t. His body language is awful, I don’t know if it’s a confidence issue or what but I heard he’s the only living person in existence to be treated for right mortis.

I'm sure a few more goals will do him the world of good. That may not help him with some of our fan base though, given their reaction to our one player who IS scoring goals.

On a serious note, Joe if by perchance you are perusing this thread, have You ever considered donning the gloves and trying your luck between the sticks ?
