When did kneeling down become taking the knee?

I wouldn't be an expert but "taking the knee" used to be at the end of an American Football game when the winning team has possession and the quarter back runs down the clock.

The American footballer - Kaeperneck or something like that - got the hump about police brutality or something and decided to take a knee in protest during the American National anthem.

The NFL is known for the respect it shows to US veterans so his actions were not universally popular.

You are certainly not being racist for asking.

Kaeperneck took the knee as US Military do for fallen comrades. He did this during the American national anthem in protest to black victims of police brutality.

But yes taking a knee is an American term I suspect. It is kneeling down.

To continue to do it at every game is obsequious nonsense and let me be clear I have no time for racism or racists.

I notice that Formula 1 drivers all wore anti racist T shirts yesterday but taking the knee was far from unanimous.
Yeh, but one of the drivers just had to be that little bit different didn't he🙄

That is a gross simplification of Kaepernick's position, but do crack on. I like the heavily coded use of "with the frizzy hair" by the way. Almost subtle.

Always amazed that people wouldn't just google something to get as much information from multiple sources as possible
Instead they ask a Blackpool football site......following that thought......anyone know what day it is today....it says Monday on Outlook....but that Bill Gates just wants to confuse us......

Robbie

You could always provide Straighters with a better explanation if you have a problem with mine.

I couldn't give a chite how you spell Kapernaek's name but he does have frizzy hair.

At least you are improving, it took you more than 30 minutes to attack my simple post.

Well done.

Listen Seaside, you can't say someone has frizzy hair because that has racist connotations. So when you're describing the ginger Fizz woman in Coronation street don't say "her with the frizzy hair" because it might be taken as offensive to black people. The world is a different place to what it was a couple of months ago.

Like you can trust what the BBC says...

Sorry Trammo, this is race relations......you want the EU thread......But don't worry, they all blend in together and just boil down to name calling.

Now......where was I.....Oh Yes, Tommy........That's deep Tommy....did you think that all by yourself or did you find it on the back of a fag packet?

I expect the irony of that statement went way above you

Just let him continue to embarrass himself Tango.

Apparently my use of "with the frizzy hair" was heavily coded.

Does he believe all the chite he spouts ?

He's just trying to draw attention to my posts in the hope that others are daft enough to follow his lead and attack me for doing feck all.

I've stood up to far bigger bullies.

Kneeling down is the placement of both knees on the floor.
Lowering one knee is actually called, genuflecting.
You tend to genuflect when you enter or sit down in a place of worship and often make the sign of the cross.
I was an alter server and you had to do a lot of genuflecting.....and no...it's not a euphemism for something dodgy with catholic priest.....

So in answer to your rather strange question. It hasn’t.
Thank you Giro for answering the op. That was my first thought as well - kneeling; two knees; taking the knee; one knee.

Different things entirely. Ask a Gladiator.

Same as you and Giro😬

" genuflecting " sounds bloody disgusting.
