When We Return

After the International Break Pool will be potentially greeted with the returns of Maxwell Keogh and Lavery to name but 3.

Straight back in or will they have to wait?.Nice problem to have.

Kev Stewart is a bit different, doesn't seem to be able to manage 1 game without getting injured again.

Yep agree with that 20s. Where’s CJ up to now he’s back on the grass? Not sure where he’ll fit in may go out on loan in Jan🤔
I've no problem with CJ going out on loan - he doesn't cut it for me. My worry is Yates. At the moment he's favouring just the one striker and as it stands that's Madine. I wouldn't want Jerry pushed further down the pecking order by Laverys return. Bit of a quandary at the moment.

Lavery on the bench - bring him on with 20-25 minutes to go for a run out when Yates/ Anderson have run themselves into the ground. Keogh straight back in. The question is, does James retain his spot? On Saturday's showing, I think he's earned a start there.
The worry for me would be Marv getting injured if Keogh is still not 100%, not sure how we'd cope with that.

Maxwell is the no1 keeper. He will be straight back in. As to will Keogh. Lavery will be on the bench.
According to NC, it’s a squad and everyone in it will get a chance. He also has said once you get the shirt you have to prove you deserve it, using those criteria I think Maxwell will have to wait. As others have said Grimshaw has done very little wrong and deserves his chance.

Video of him jumping around a trampoline park with his family on his injured ankle. I get the feeling Kev is a bit of a happy to pick up his money for doing nothing kind of guy.

I imagine that Lavery and Yates will probably rotate, one starts, the other comes on after an hour then reverse the order in the next game.

I'm a bit worried that NC thinks Husband is a better option at CB than Connolly, Casey or Gret so Keogh is presumably a shoo-in if fit.

Maxwell/Grimshaw might be a lot closer.

Can see Keogh back.

Would be unfair on Grimmy to be replaced that quickly.

We don't really have a fixed front line, so I guess it is anyone's game.

Maxwell is the captain, he'll be back if fit.

that's the standard line. Maxwell is first choice keeper. You wouldn't not bring Messi back in to the team just because his understudy had done well would you?

On that basis why wouldn`t you bring back our leading scorer .It`s hardly as if we`ve got any other prolific goal scorers in our squad and clearly Critch isn`t over enamoured with Yates, though I understand he might want to give Lavery a first game back from off the bench.

I think they will bring our captain back though to compare his value in the team to Messi`s value to his team is stretching things to put it mildly.

Maxwell in without doubt. Not been entirely convinced by Grimshaw and he’s simply not as good.

Keogh yes he comes back. I was on his case at first as he seemed slow and ponderous but no doubt he has showed his class of late.

Lavery must return as he is the best natural goal scorer at the club.

Why not convinced with Grimshaw & what's he done wrong in recent games that maxwell would have done better? Distribution improved immensely with confidence and I think he's better on crosses, even punches, which has always been maxwell's weakness.

Lavery is still a fledgling when it comes to this standard of football. As i said Critch likes the tried and trusted and that's why Madine is currently first choice though I'd guess it won't be too long before he's injured again. The goalkeeping position is perhaps the position where managers go more for the tried and trusted than any other position and why I think he'll bring Maxwell back. The value of any player in any team isn't about monetary terms, it's about importance and it's my view that Critchley sees Maxwell as being that important.

Maxwell will be straight back in when FULLY fit. As others have said Grimshaw has done brilliantly but Maxi is first choice

Kepgh 100% straight back in when FULLY fit, and not before. I’d move husband back to left back as I think he’s done really well there in recent games, and assuming Garbett is still injured.

I would have Lavery on the bench, as others have said let Yates/Keshi run themselves into the ground for 60/70 mins then bring him on

As the OP says- it’s a nice problem to have

I wonder if Maxwell has ever been compared to Messi 😂

Tbf grimshaw has done ok and certainly better than I thought after the Forest game where he looked nervous and couldn’t kick the ball. He made a great save at sheff u and had little chance with any of the goals conceded. However Maxwell is the captain and has been magnificent for 18 months… straight back in for me

This is why we shouldn’t change shirts every year. We should stick to same every two to three years. It would also be much more environmental friendlier like Forest Green Rovers.

He is a good understudy and has improved from a pretty poor display at Forest but he still lacks presence for me and poor distribution is also a factor which he is improving. I suppose my biggest issue is his starting position on long range shots. He seems to hesitate before committing to dive and that has been a factor since n several goals we have conceded. That said he is still a decent understudy and as such if Maxi is fit he plays.

Think we can probably add CJ Hamilton to that list. If everyone remains fit then there are some players who have had their chance lately that I can't see playing for us again this season.

You got your wish about Maxwell returning, that went well didn’t it?

I’m really glad he dropped Grimshaw and brought Maxwell back.😳

So the defeat was down to Maxwell along be was it? Grimshaw has been at fault for goals as well but there are several on the board with short memories….
Two of the three were down to him, I don’t remember Grimshaw being at fault for two goals in one game. Also nowhere did I say the defeat was down to him alone, poor team selection was the major contributor but he certainly played a part.

How fickle are our fans?...Maxwell has been superb for a season and a half and has one poor game and gets slaughtered. His distribution is in a different league to Grimshaw and he will bounce back. I would be more concerned about our lack of goals at the moment than Maxwell having a bad day at the office

I am concerned about both. We won’t win games if we don’t score, agreed. But if we aren’t scoring and we are conceding, especially when our ‘No 1’ goalkeeper is making schoolboy errors we won’t even draw.

Talk me through the reason they scored and explain why they were all Maxwells fault and how Grimshaw would definitely have saved them.
The firstwas definitely down to him palming the ball for a corner, from which they scored and the second he was flapping his arms like a dying swan. I had left when the third was scored. In general he doesn’t command his area , his kicks invariably go into touch, need I go on?

The first save was because the ball skipped horribly on the wet turf and he couldn't trust to hold it. We then failed abysmally to challenge for the ball despite having 11 in the box.

The second, we had three or four chances to clear the ball and failed to do so. The keeper spread himself in an attempt to block the point blank header. There was possibly an offside when the lad tapped it in on the line BTW.

So you didn't see the third. Still his fault though...

OK.

I didn’t say anything about the third except that I wasn’t there. Just to clarify as you appear to be a little hard of reading.

In my earlier post I asked you how it was Maxwells fault for ALL the goals and how Grimshaw would have done it differently, something you appear to have ignored. Hard of reading?

I gave my reasons for what I saw, I consider myself to be reasonably intelligent but even I can’t pass judgment on something I didn’t see. You were therefore asking an impossible to answer question. I read your post through and commented on what I saw and didn’t speculate on something I didn’t see which I think any reasonable person would understand.

That's a fair summary. Didn't mean to have a go.
