Where were the EU when we needed you most

Is the statement coming out of Italy.

It was the 1st European country to fall to the virus
The 1st European country to call for help.
But in its hour of greatest need Italy says it was abandoned by an EU that audits everything and closed borders and failed to come together as one.

Germany finally sent supplies in but only after the Russians came to the Italians aid first.

The European union has since sent out a heartfelt apology (whoop de phooking do)

If they are as united as they like to tell everyone, surely they should have met the virus head on in Italy and maybe , if not eradicated the virus, at least slowed the spread down.

There is now a high European union resentment amongst many Italians and maybe this is the death knoll for the EU in general. When something this important hits the world and the EU members cannot come together in a moment of crisis what is the point of it in the first place.

The UK started the process, the Corona virus has enhanced this, but I think the German "I'm alright jack" attitude will be the final straw.

Totally agree posted the same over two weeks ago on here that it was every man/woman for themselves and I'm alright Jack attitude in the EU.
Big deal Germany have finally helped some they should have be there at the start and maybe the disease wouldn't have spread so rapidly threw Europe.

Italy and Spain where left high and dry and should have been helped with testing, medical supplies and money.
Italy asked for help on the 13th March for medical supplies and where refused by Germany.

Union more like a Sepperation.

Merkel is now coming out strongly for Germany to pay for the other States recovery - to save democracy (whatever that means).

A bit late but it might help as a damage limitation excerise.

I am very very very pro-european, and think that Brexit is still the most stupid thing that the UK has ever done, but I would agree with everything you say. The EU has been fundamentally incompetent. at a level that makes the UK governments, the spanish governments response look considered and professional (which it hasn't been). I would go as far as saying that the EU has probably outdone Trump in the stupidity and incompetence stakes. I tend to agree this might be the point that breaks the EU.
